But I’m fighting it. My Sobriety Date is December 29, 2019. I went to an AA meeting this afternoon. I don’t currently have a sponsor. I really want a drink right now.
Fight the urge @anon54988740. Try to distract yourself.
Take a hot shower then make yourself a nice cup of coffee.
Just stay away from booze!
Hang in there, brother. I have two years and eleven months sober. I’ll be on and off this site for a while. Call on me if you want.
Go to another meeting. You’ll get lots of support and if you’re in a meeting, you won’t be drinking.
Also, this is why my sponsor always told me to get phone numbers. There’s plenty of members who wouldn’t mind talking to someone over the phone who is struggling with urges to drink and needs support or a friendly person to talk to.
Thanks for the advice. I took a hot shower, and that helped a lot.
Keep fighting it I’m craving too especially on nights like this but if you make it through New Years sober that might be the notch in your belt that keeps you going all year.
Thanks. I’m risking my volunteer job by drinking. You are supposed to be sober three months before you can work there. That was true when I started there, but I started drinking again April 2019.
I’ve got a couple of numbers, but I don’t want to risk waking someone up. People are already up on this forum.
Dont do it 1515
Sending all the sober vibes I can, sir. Hoping you make it through this 24.
(((hugs)))
For future reference, you might want to talk to the people who gave you their number and kind of get an idea of when it’s OK to call them or what time. When I had about a year clean I called my sponsor once at 2:00 am because I panicked after drinking 5 or 6 Cokes because I felt pretty buzzed and I thought I broke my sobriety.
It woke him up but he talked to me and he assured me I was still clean and sober. He didn’t get mad at me and he didn’t tell me to not call him again at that hour. Which I understood. My first 5 years of AA I was pretty gung-ho about the programs and I went to AA, CA, and NA functions and got into service and attended meetings 5 or 6 times a week and I would stand up in front of the group and give a talk whether it was in front of only two people or a hundred people.
If another addict or alcoholic would have ever called me any time, day or night because they were having cravings and were scared they were going to drink or use I would gladly have talked them. And that’s how many people are in AA, CA and NA.
Maybe you have tried it before - but i found drinking a shed load of fluids helps, like orange juice with plenty of sugar in it (and i mean plenty) . Try and fill your belly. And get yourself some hard boiled sweets. But yeah - try and get hold of a sponsor - Best of luck mate. Dont pick up that first drink! The time of year probably hasnt helped either.
You did it before - you can do it again.
The urge to drink will pass. Stay sober for the next 24 hours. Take it one day at a time.
