I have had zero luck losing weight the traditional way. And I refuse to try any of those weight loss drugs GLP1s because of the lasting side effects I hear about.
I need to lose 40 more pounds by August/September so I decided I’m going to temporarily go back to a strict keto diet. Only short term, my ED therapist is behind me on this and will support me when I want to transition back t a traditional diet.
I had a plan where I was going to go on the keto diet for a year and lose most of my weight and then transition to the Mediterranean diet to lose the rest.
In the meantime I started mounjaro and it’s working for me, I’ve lost 48 lbs.
I really like the keto diet and it keeps my weight in check. If you like the idea of putting the body in ketosis and enjoy the meal plans then I say go for it.
I advice would be not to get too caught up in getting so strict about it that if you cheat one meal it will turn into a binge eating session. You said your ED therapist approves of you going on it so I would suggest you work closely with your therapist to help you not fall back into a bad cycle of binge eating.
Also, I just got my cholesterol checked last week and after several years on keto it was higher than what my Dr wanted to see.
You might want to have your Dr monitor your cholesterol too. For some people it can go too high.
The diet also helps with mood regulation. I am not as cranky on it as other diets, and it can help balance our female hormones a bit. My PMS is not as bad on this diet either.
That is just my experience. Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do.
Thank you @Vinegar for all the input. I did keto for 5 months last year and lost about 50 pounds in that time. I’m hoping for rapid weight loss again. Today is day one and I feel like crap probably because I haven’t eaten carbs
Yeah, the first week going in can be really rough because our bodies are still craving carbs. Remember that the carb cravings pass. You are strong a woman. You can do this!
I’m also trying to hop on the keto diet. My issue mostly is snacking and trying to stay away from crackers and crisps. I am commited to dropping them ATM. Had a 2 days of mostly protein. Need to buy some more fruit today as I found having small portion of lunch good but the fruit helps with glucose levels
You might have to cut out most fruit in order to get your body into ketosis. General rule of thumb to be in ketosis you need to eat 50g of carbs or less. Personally I’m aiming for 30g total of carbs per day which seemed to work for me last year. I still eat a small amount of low carb fruits like blueberries and strawberries.
About the weight loss drugs/injections etc. They are a short term fix that are exceptionally expensive. I know someone taking one of them and she’s spent a lot of money on it. She has lost a lot of weight and looks very different now. But the problem is when her treatment ends I suspect she will put it back on because she will no longer have decreased appetite.
I think it is a lot better to have to change your eating habits yourself because you learn how to control your diet. The weight loss drugs seem like they are effective but I would be interested to see studies on how well people kept weight off post treatment.
Couldn’t agree more @StarCrazy when it comes to weight loss meds. They can help a lot of people lose weight but the two people I know who came off the weight loss meds started regaining the weight within the year. One of my friends who is on a GLP1 states she thinks she will be on it for life. I couldn’t imagine having to pay for that my whole life. It’s around $150-200 a month WITH insurance
Hey, I am gonna try the Keto diet but only for 2 weeks. Here is my plan
Dinner eat 2x farmed salmon, 2x chicken with skin, 2 x steak 1x groundbeef
Lunch, I eat 2 meals a day. Lunch will consists of eggs, with some advocado or some cheese.
Add some yoghurt with each meal. ( not too much) because of the carb limit.
Ofcourse with the dinner at some vegetables, I am gonna rotate between cauliflower, brocolli, and green beens.
Some spices like nutmeg and curcummin.
I want to know if I notice any difference.. doing it for mental not for weightloss.
Forgot suppelements: definitly need magnesium and potassium. Maybe niacin too
Good luck with it @jean1 I know you can do it! I did it for like 5-6 months last year and lost 40 pounds. My mental clarity was nice too. Just please don’t go OFF your meds
I just want to add that you will most likely feel terrible for the first 2 weeks on this diet because the body and brain will lose carbs for the first time ever and have to “recalibrate” itself.
It will take longer than 2 weeks if you are looking to see changes in your mental health.
In my opinion, probably more like 3 to 6 weeks. At least that was my experience when I started the diet.
Everyone reacts differently to the keto diet so please keep us all updated on how you are feeling after a few weeks.
I’m on day 4. I had loads of energy on Friday and played video games for most of the day which is unusual for me.
Then yesterday and today have zero energy and spent most of it in bed. Forced myself to go for a walk just now. Bought and ate some strawberries and feel a lot less fatigued.
I might try introducing fruit into my day earlier next time I feel super fatigued.
Oh and I also ordered some keto snacks so I have some more things to try.
