I just wanna do a random rant

You know how people say “none of the gen Z or the millennials wanna work” well the vast majority of grocery stores have self checkouts that makes a lot less jobs also in Walmart there’s loads of self checkouts basically what I’m saying is technology is causing people to not have any job opportunities

Basically the technology is gonna eventually cause mass job loss

Yeah, technology eliminates some jobs. They’ll always need people to dig ditches and wash dishes.

Ya, UBI (universal basic income) when our AI Overlords take-over lol. I mean, from econ 101, they told us that people will either adapt or need job training. Some transition is inevitable. People still work when the cars came out and the lightbulbs turned on and the refridgerators started working. I mean, it’s fear and probably rightfully so.

We need skills training. I’m sure the AI will be cocentrated towards the top (who ever owns the AI and the servers and data).

In econ, they told us technology was good for the economy and the long run (people). I mean, there’s always a downside, I guess.

I remember hearing them saying the newspapers would go out of business, but we still got the largest ones. They adapted to the internet pretty much.

Sears went bankrupt, but now we got Amazon. Some things have improved and some things have gotten worse…

The unemployment rate in the US is at 4% atm. If I remember correctly, that is the percentage of unemployed people actively searching for jobs. Whatever you think may happen in the future, 4% does not seem like there are a lot of people searching for a job that cant find one.

Now, if you want to question whether or not the pay is good enough considering how bad inflation has been in recent years, thats another story.

On the other end you, of course, have the ridiculousness of Californias fast food minimum wage, making some business struggle or go out of business.

So, I don’t know. Complex stuff.

The unemployment rate is at all time lows in Europe as well.

An extremely influential thinker and author (who i dont like) by the name of Yuval Harari beleives that in the coming years, ai and tech/robotics and all that will take over so many tasks and jobs that a massive portion of the human population will become a new kind of class. He calls them the ‘useless class’. The ones who dont have the expert skills or anything to contribute or to work or do much of anything. One of the methods that he suggests to help this part of the population to not be super depressed or troublsome, would be to provide lots of advanced gaming entertainment and also lots of drugs. He also said something along the lines that technology would make political dictatorship way more efficient and better than democracy in the future.
Anyway lol. Crazy times indeed when ideas like this are seen as good and normal haha.

Dude sounds like a loser to me. I hope the first job AI takes over is moronic thinkers and influencers. A guy thinking he is better than the ‘useless class’ who just sits around and thinks of stupid crap all day seems to belong in this class himself.

People are capable of learning new skills. Suggesting that instead of training people, that anyone that does not immediatly meet a certain criteria is useless and should be encouraged to become a drug attic, is ridiculously dumb.

And even if they werent capable of learning new skills, making them drug addicts is just a stupid idea.

It is not right to go to someone who is a decade away from retirement and tell them that they need to spend years retraining and start over because they are now obsolete after doing something for a quarter century. This is what is happening to my professional photographer and writing friends.

Don’t worry soon we’ll be able to sit back in our vr pleasure pods and live in an alternate world where ai was never created :grinning:

Is this the premise of the matrix?

It’s happening to musicians too I saw a amazing AI song and all the person did was write the lyrics it was a amazing song the fake guitarist was great it’s a political song so can’t show it but goddamn it was amazing also my mom is a few years from retirement and I think bank tellers are going the way of the dodo in maximum 10 years she’s retiring tho so it’s ok

Some people say we are, but the pleasure function seems to be sold separately.

I still think The Thirteenth Floor was a better film.

I predict that AI and robots will take over almost completely

I give it another 7 years

Yeah there’s now robot waiters at restaurants and that’s why they keep saying that “nobody wants to work” the damn robots are gonna destroy the economy think for a second the self checkouts could bring more cashiers the robot who brings the food as cool as it is it’s a terrible sign for things to come
