I just ordered some gaba which contains gamma acid (I think it’s called). I read about it on the front page of this site (schizophrenia.com) and thought I’d order and try some. Has anyone used it before? Can you fill me in please. It cost me £23. I also read that gaba is low in schizophrenics.
Not sure if this is true or not, but I read somewhere oral gaba can’t cross from the blood into the brain so it does nothing. A supplement called picomilon (spelling?) can do though.
I would take this with a pinch of salt though cos lots of people seem to benefit from normal gaba
Thanks jimbob. Yeh I read some reviews before I bought it and they were positive. But still, if it helps with anything I’ll be glad.
It contains “gaba amino butyric acid” and inositol. Whether or not they cross the brain barrier or not Ill just have to try them out and hope something positive happens.
I don’t mean to be a downer but I remember that I decided not to supplement with gaba because it wasn’t clear whether the brain would stop manufacturing gaba if it was being introduced. For some reason, I ended up on niacin in the form of nicotinic acid I think because it turns into gaba in the body and that won’t stop it from being produced, if I remember correctly. I know I was warned about taking gaba and ended up on the niacin instead… I don’t know, that might not be great information–it was a long time ago-- but it might be worth looking into, too.
I’m not expecting much from it now. I take l-theanine and that definitely has an effect on me. If I don’t get much from the gaba I can always rely on l-theanine.
Well I took the gaba and I really like it. It feels a lot cleaner relaxation than theanine. I feel calm and positive. It’s a mild but comforting feeling. My heart has slowness down and I’m not feeling panicky.
