So I had this weird sensitivity in my skin on my side the past day or two. Yesterday a blister showed up. I went to the doctor today and confirmed it was shingles. I got an antiviral, nerve pain meds, and a cream. This ■■■■ is painful though. I’m gonna be taking it easy for a bit. I’m young to get shingles, but it’s a luck of the draw thing. It’s not completely terrible though. Just some pain and takes a while to heal. Anyone have shingles before? What was your experience?
I read its only dangerous if you’re over 65 or have immunocompromised immune system
Yeah not so worried about dying. The one thing is nerve damage and long lasting nerve pain. The doctor said it’s rare and the fact that I’m able to even wear a shirt is a good sign. It’s not that bad. Just didn’t realize how painful shingles is. I always thought it was just itchy skin or something.
Good luck with the treatment
Thanks. I feel a lot better with the pain meds. And hopefully the antiviral kicks its ass.
Feel better soon.
One of my friends got it and spent a year in agony. I got my shingles vax two weeks into watching him suffer. Just horrible.
Yeah hopefully that doesn’t happen. Who knows. She said if I do have nerve pain they got meds for it. I wouldn’t oook forward to taking gabapentin long term. I’m praying that doesn’t happen to me.
I got shingles when I was 19. It appeared on my back. It was kind of numb/tingly for like 6 weeks or something then went away.
Cool. Mines pain in my side like I’ve been punched. Plus some skin irritation.
I sure hope it clears quickly @TheSecondVariety.
I’m glad the meds are helping you. My stepmom ended up with permanent painful nerve damage after getting shingles.
I had it in my early thirrties, i was achey etc but was fine after 2 weeks
My brother got shingles on his face fairly close to one of his eyes. Fortunately it didnt go into his eye because that could have caused vision loss. I got my shingles vaccine promptly after that.
I took the vaccine and Im over 50 so hopefully I won’t get it.
Damn. This is all very scary. Maybe I should get the vaccine.
Sorry to hear that.
You are handling it beautifully it sounds and wonderful you got all your medicine to help you get through it.
My great grandma had shingles. She was in a lot of pain from it.
It’s definitely worth getting the shingles vaccine if you’re 50+ years old or if you’re immunocompromised. The shingrix vaccine requires 2 doses and is very effective.
friend had shingles near his eye below his left cheek too…he was so scared…
