I have osteoarthritis

I saw the doctor today, and she said I have osteoarthritis in the lower back, left hip, and left knee. She wants me to take Meloxicam for 30 days, and if it doesn’t work, she would refer me to a specialist who will give me a shot in the hip. The worst pain is in my hip. Other than this, they can replace my hip.

She just looked at the x-rays from December 2019, and didn’t do new ones.

It looks like I’m just going to have to live with it as best as I can.

Sorry to hear that. Having schizophrenia is enough for one person osteoarthritis is a different beast. I had some minor arthritis on my knee when I worked food service. Standing on those tile floors 10 hours a day hurt my knee so bad. It’s so debilitating dealing with pain

I’m sorry. That sounds so awful. I think it’s better to move around a walk a bit every day. Gentle exercise is good for arthritis

That and weight loss to get rid of stress on the joints. That’s harder than it seems

Yes. It’s really hard. But so worth if if you can push through and gently exercise (like walking) and follow a heathy diet

Thanks Edparry. Luckily I don’t have to stand much. Maybe a half hour or 45 minutes at the bus stop.

Thanks Pianogal. About the only exercise I can do is walking. I can’t jump, run, jog, or squat down on the floor.

That’s ok  just walking is good enough

I have had it in my back, shoulder and hip for over ten years. Best things I have done for it include taking MSM, turmeric, stopping ibuprofen, stopping lactose intake, reducing sugar and caffeine, sleeping more, yoga, breathing and taking better care of my gut bacteria to reduce inflammation.

I also have been losing weight intentionally by keeping a food diary and am down 12 lbs since March.

It’s a hassle, but worth it.

The ibuprofen ironically was making things worse because I think it is true that it can exacerbate a “leaky gut” and increase inflammation.

Forgot to mention… Also make sure you have a decent mattress to sleep on and if you have a car make sure the seats have good lumbar support.

I have degenerative arthritis in my whole body. My doctor didn’t recommend pills, shots, or surgery. He told me to “get out and walk”. So I did for a whole year and it didn’t help at all. So, I started doing yoga instead. Within 6 months, I was pain free.

Wow that’s amazing. I’ve thought about doing yoga but haven’t started yet. One of these days I’ll get the mat out
