I have found that meat and dairy products are making my mental health worse

I have found that the protein in animal products are contributing to my mental health disorders. I am pretty sure that I have PKU.
I am now eating a vegan diet and I no longer have a headache or brain fog.
It is really hard to buy meals without meat or cheese in them.
I would be interested to hear about anyone else on here who are vegetarian, and know what are good foods to eat.

Hi, good foods are fresh fruits and veggies, cereals (pasta rice cous cous…), legumes, nuts and oils.

Do you know if @mermaid1 is vegan out of choice, or for a medical reason?

Your reply was most helpful @karl , I will look at all brands you have mentioned.
Do you take B vitamins as they mainly come from meat?

Hi @Simonw

I became a vegan 7 weeks ago and love it by far.

I eat tempeh in mixed Asian dressings, with brown rice and sauteed vegetables. Pasta with vegan cheese, cashew milk in my coffee, margarine instead of butter, tofu spread, cocnut yogurt, lentil dishes and types of grains etc. beans!

I take daily vitamin B complex and vitamin D

My girlfriend had been a vegetarian for many years and has wonderful health for a person her age.
I’ve cut down drastically on animal products and at different times have stopped eating meat at all, although I still ate dairy. When I did, my blood tests were much better overall and my diabetes type 2 got better to the point that the nurse told me they had practically receded. But I was also watching my sugar and carb intake.
From a heath standpoint, vegan and vegetarian diets can be very beneficial. But you must be careful to do it in a manner that addresses proper nutrition overall.
