I feel the Internet has ruined everything
No way man. It has allowed everyone a voice. Used to only read what the elite put out.
Maybe you’re right. But if we were ignorant without internet. I think we’d be much happier.
You can share your music too.
I think it’s natural for anybody to have mixed thoughts about the internet. I’m having one of those days though.
Get off the internet for a while if you hate it so much. If you truly can’t see the good, leave. Give it some time.
I grew up when computers were rare to have in households. When I was in high school in the 1970’s the only person I ever met who had a computer in his house was my neighbor who was a computer programmer. I reached 37 years old before I even knew what the internet was. Instead of a long post I will just say that the internet has both it’s positives and negatives. Personally, the negative is that it is too easy to sit down and get on the internet and before you know it, two or three hours has gone by which I could have been spending taking care of my responsibilities like running errands, paying bills, making phone calls etc.
But as a person who grew up before PC’s were affordable and the birth of the internet was just a gleam in Bill Gates eyes, I can just say how easier it’ makes life. It’s good entertainment for sure. But the practical value of it is invaluable. From taking online college courses to finding directions on MapQuest to looking up phone numbers and addresses to buying things I need on Amazon etc. the list is endless how useful it is. Having grown up without the internet makes me appreciate it much more when I think about it.
No I’m meaning like when you’re mentally ill the Internet really messes with your mind…
Yes I take my meds I feel the Internet has driven me crazy. Crazier than I would’ve ever been without it. One thing I like about no Internet is it forces you to get out of the house like my whole high school life I was alone on the Internet in my room. And before the Internet you had to get out and go play with friends The Internet and then becomes a crutch and you become addicted to it. You don’t learn how to socialize in real life. And many other bad things. I could see why 77 Nick thinks the Internet is so great because he didn’t grow up with it.
I grew up with the internet and I think it’s great.
The Internet has taken me to many bad places in the mind. From grandiosity and narcissism of pretending to be someone I wasn’t online. A false identity which brought me to escapism and separation from what is real altogether . A perfect person I built. He was everything I wasn’t because I became nothing and he became everything. Who knows maybe my fate would be worse without the internet. I guess I’ll never know. But I doubt I’d be so damn confused by all this unnecessary knowledge if we didn’t have internet!
I think I understand. Online context and tone is very hard to bring into a conversation properly. It is SO easy to think a post or meme is about you.
Right before I had a serious psychotic break I thought every FB friend was out to get me and posting things to drive me crazy. That was a really scary time.
**Had to edit the types!
when i was most symptomatic it really was bad for me because i was obsessed with facebook and how much my friends on their liked me and that i thought they were all plotting on me…i generally think its a great thing though
Yeah that stuff too I was thinking about also. I mean before the Internet schizophrenics still had license plates and radio to have delusions about. But the internet has taken those examples to great extreme.
Perhaps. But it also allows us to reach out and learn more about our disease.
I think Facebook must really suck for people who have full time jobs as employees: you never know if you say the wrong thing or voice an opinion how it’s going to come back to haunt you. Free speech seems almost impossible for the employed…or it seems they have to walk a very fine line most of the time and mostly post fluff.
I live in a smaller town and i love how i can talk to @far_cry0 from Nepal or @anon73425833 from Romania. I find it fascinating. I’m speaking somewhat biased though because my psychosis wasn’t tied to technology.
