I feel mentally disabled from sz

Wow didn’t know that there is tests for the need of protection from bullies.

The thing is that I still had the same negative symptoms when I stopped meds for 1-2 years. My pdr said in sz with negative symptoms there is parts in the brain low in dopamine while others high in dopamine. They don’t know which are the parts and where they are. Meds normalizes dopamine just in high dopamine parts without raising dopamine in the low dopamine parts. The only thing that helped me a bit, by 30-40% are partial dopamine agonists like Abilify. I am waiting for Vraylar, hopefully it will help.

I will call it brain damage and mental disability as long as they don’t have meds for negative symptoms. It will probably take over 100 years for scientists to discover the brain parts low in dopamine in negative symptoms. Maybe another 100 years to develop meds specifically targeting these brain parts.

I am at the mercy of science.

I’m mentally disabled and I do believe that I’m suffering from a decent amount of brain damage.

Between the illness and the powerful meds I’ve been on over a span of decades, my brain is basically fried.

Do you think future meds can help?

In my case I don’t think so but they may help you.

I’m so dependent on Risperdal that I can’t quit without experiencing rebound psychosis.

They’re developing new meds for negative symptoms, KarXT, its in clinical trials phase 3 for positive symptoms and phase 2 for negative symptoms. If it succeeds, it will be the 1st med in the world for negative symptoms.

I feel the same way - I used to be together and maintain a social life with friends, I felt sharp as a tac now my thoughts feel diluted and basic, watered down …
I hope it goes away soon :worried:

Even if I wanted to socialise a lot I’m on a hiding to nothing . Things that come automatically to NTs elude me. When to approach someone to start a conversation? Initiating a conversation?! Body language. Tone of voice etc
