I feel better today than I've felt in years. L-theanine may have been making me worse?

I gave up L-theanine as I had a pain on my right side when I went to bed, so I wanted to see if it was caused by L-theanine.

I’ve also quit caffeine.

Previously I couldn’t live without L-theanine but I now suspect it was just helping me live with caffeine (which I figured out I can’t tolerate).

I suffered very minor withdrawal from 750mg /day L-theanine for a few days.

And today, I feel great.

I still take broccoli sprout extract once a day.

A great man once said that dependence breeds weakness ultimately. I think it is true.

I’m glad you feel better.

Wonderful! I’m really happy to hear you feel so good. Isn’t that strange that it was doing a negative on you?

I was taking quite a lot and it appeared to help while i was drinking coffee (it made me feel less bad lol). But yeah it’s strange.

Not to hijack but are there any supplements you swear by?

I don’t take any and once tried Sarcosine because it made such a splash when it came on the scene. Although in that I felt no different…

The broccoli sprout extract sounds interesting since broccoli is famous for fighting “The big ‘C’”(cancer).

I’m glad ur so upbeat today and of course that you feel good.

Taurine as a PRN
Broccoli sprout extract daily
Beta Alanine as a PRN

I tried NAC but it interacts with Abilify so I stopped. But if you don’t take Abilify it’s worth trying. It has good research behind it.

Interesting. One theory of mine is that l-theanine or other neurotransmitter boosters kind of depletes neurotransmitters like GABA, serotonin and dopamine if you take more than the brain is able to process. This would typically happen if you ingest high doses, or never cycle the supplement. It’s supposed to raise those neurotransmitters, but if you overdo it you might get a paradoxal effect.

Lteanine is a bit sedating,
So i understand if you feel different.
Are you gonna stay without it?

I’m going to stay without it as I don’t need it anymore. It was just helping when I was drinking coffee.

Coffee makes me feel bad and L-theanine helped to make me feel not so bad on coffee.

I don’t feel as good today as I did yesterday when I made that post though.

How are things going without the L-theanine now?

I’m getting on fine without it, but I just feel “ok” not as good as when I made the original post above. That day of feeling great was a one off and I got suckered :joy: Thanks for asking @Leaf .

One day of bliss? That’s total bs

Yeah! I think it must have been some rebound reaction to quitting L-theanine. Like the way some people feel better for a while after quitting their AP.

Have you thought about trying it again to see if it would in turn cause another day of bliss?

Not really. The reason I quit was I had a pain in my right side (probably liver). I was taking 750mg /day for years and I think it finally caught up with me.

The pain has gone away now.

Well that’s a good thing.

For me NAC helps with depression. It makes my mood normal instead of waking up feeling bad.

I tried NAC, but unfortunately it seems to interact with Abilify to make it (Abilify) less effective.
