I’ve cut my l-theanine supplement intake down to 400mg a day from 800mg a day. I tried to quit cold turkey, but actually felt I was becoming unstable.
I’m definitely going through withdrawal. Now that today’s 400mg dose is wearing off. I feel a sense of profound boredom.
I was taking 800mg of the supplement a day for about a year.
So just another heads up, if you’ve been taking it long term. Make sure you have enough left to taper off it when you decide to stop taking it.
How did this medication help you?
Are there side effects?
Why are you quitting this medicine??
I often am bored, but I’m often more lazy than I used to be. It would be my own fault if I complained to someone I was bored. Once, when I was 7 and young with my first step mother I was alone without my sister or step brothers and I complained to her I was bored. She rushed to me and slapped me in the face and screamed at me (you have a basement full of toys!).
Childhood could be rough back then.

@everhopeful have you tried replacing it with something else? I’ve not medicated but people seem to think I should and I’d be interested if you have gone without what was the difference, is without always worst?
@neveragain That’s really sad. I had toys and a good family, but I was different from such a young age that I couldn’t always relate to the same games as other kids. I’ve been assaulted for no reason several times, but never by family. I think maybe my 2 brothers were scared of me, but we get on ok now.

It calmed me down, and calmed my thinking. It’s not a medication, just an over the counter supplement.
Are there side effects?
None that I experienced.

I went a few days without it and felt I was going through something similar to Cloneazapam withdrawal. So I want to see how easy it is to actually come off it now.

If you get off it what’s your mission plan to keep from being bored and being a bit more hyper perhaps?

None. I might even just go back on it again. I’m just seeing how easy it is to actually come off it.
I think if you got off it you’d be more anxious for awhile, I dunno. I’ve never tried it honestly…but I hope that your health does NOT decline from anything. I would never wish my illness on anyone and whatever helps you try it out and keep doing it.

I bought a model of an airplane I used to jump out of, it’s just a plastic model but really difficult to make and takes alot of time…try arts and crafts and expressive things like that to help cure your boredom. Everyone should have a few hobbies and stuff…
