I don't understand my doctor

He saw me all depressed and said: I propose 2 options: Change Vraylar to Clozapine, or switch to Rexulti.

He sees me all sedated and with suicidal thoughts and offers me clozapine, which is even more powerful than vraylar, does anyone understand this?

Clozapine is supposed to be good for preventing suicidal behaviour and thoughts.

But it is more powerful than vraylar, how can it be, it blocks dopamine

When i was on clozapine it really helped with suicidal ideation and self-harm. I don’t know how it worked, it just did.

I honestly think you could try abilify but check with your psychiatrist… There’s a lancet study on 32 antipsychotics

Pdocs seem to be all about trying to completely eliminate my positive symptoms at the expense of everything else. They don’t like it when I go off script and ask for a low dose of something.

“But you’ll have positive symptoms at this dose.”

“Yes, I know.”

When I complained about depression to my first psychiatrist; she added a Paxil prescription to my Invega prescription. My self then reminds me now of those workers in Joss Whedon’s “Serenity,” wanting to curl up on the floor.

When I got off of the Paxil, I guess I made a point of keeping myself relatively not-depressed.

This is why I don’t want refferal to a pdoc. I have a excellent relationship with my GP, and pretty much get what I ask for as long as I have good arguments for it.

If I went to a pdoc I’m afraid they would impose medication on me. One time I asked my GP about getting a sleepaid along my zyprexa, she was unsure what to suggest and corresponded with a pdoc. The answer they came up with was nozinan which is a first generation a AP that most people don’t speak highly of :grimacing:

I refused and did my own research and got gabapentin from my GP instead.

Edit: Ofcourse I would see a pdoc if it became a necessity.

And also, just because something is newer, more expensive, doesnt mean its better on average. If you looked at the lancet study on 32 antipsychotics, you would realise that abilify is actually “better” than vraylar or rexulti as it has less sexual side effects, better weight profile and larger effect size…

This is normally my relationship with most pdocs. When you’ve been functioning well enough to have a family and work full-time for a quarter century they tend to cut you some slack. The latest one I was assigned to is convinced I need to be on heavier meds and she is getting on my nerves. I don’t have a GP now (mine fled the province because it is hostile to doctors) so I need to see the pdoc for scrip refills.

Larger side-effect size, too. Bleh.

Anyway, I thought that Mr. Whedon received a bit of criticism starting in 2020 because of his clear criticism of Paxil in the Firefly and Serenity shows. I thought that until this morning when I read about some of his political comments regarding specific politicians, who have many connections.

I guess it is safe to post a link to a YouTube video of Mr. Whedon specifically parodizing “Pax”/“Paxil-” for making some people want to curl up on the floor.

TRIGGER WARNING

There is some screaming in the video.

Clozapine has too many side effects, I would much prefer Rexulti.
