I can't tolerate any antipsychotic, I'm desperate

I took haloperidol, vraylar, abilify, zyprexa, risperidone. It seems that no antipsychotic is tolerable for me, they all generate suicidal thoughts and ideation. I don’t know if I should look for a supplement to relieve these symptoms. My psychiatrist doesn’t want to reduce my vraylar dosage.

APs don’t relieve my suicidal ideation. I take Wellbutrin for that and it works very well.

It is an antidepressant, when you take it does the suicidal ideation go away?

Yes, that is my reason for taking it.

I’m on clozapine specifically because it reduces my suicidal ideation and self harm. It’s a med that can be complicated and requires supervision but it’s been good for me in that aspect. It is kind of a “last resort” med, tho…

Id half the dose. Maybe they’re over prescribing you.

Clozapine has a unique mechanism of action, but I think the psychiatrist would not want to prescribe it to me, you have to do weekly tests, right?

He is giving me 3mg of vraylar. When I asked him if he could give me 1.5 mg he told me that it is not a dose for schizophrenia.

I have blood tests every 2 weeks, but I’m close to moving to a once-monthly schedule. It’s a pain at first but it gets better over time.

He’s probably right. But it’s better than nothing and the original dose seems to be too much. Imo it’s not the med if you’ve tried them all it’s the dose. Maybe what he recommended is what is commonly prescribed but you said it’s painful to be on such a dose so idk why he wouldn’t try less of it. Probably against protocol but that makes no sense. Half is better than nothing and is certainly better than risking suicide

Yes, I don’t understand why he doesn’t listen to me. He told me that 1.5 vraylar showed no difference from the placebo, something like that.

Here in Canada Clozaril goes as follows

1st 6 months = Blood test weekly
6 months to 1 year = Blood tests biweekly
1 year+ = Monthly blood tests

Been on Clozaril for 11 years now. And still need to get monthly blood works and go through a questionnaire

It sucks but it’s the only medication that helped stop my hallucinations at the time

Is vraylar the only med your on?

Yes, I always took only one antipsychotic.

Are you feeling depressed or are the ideations just intrusive thoughts?

Yes, I feel depressed. No, I do not have intrusive thoughts or paranoia. Always when I take antipsychotics I feel very lonely and depressed, and I begin to idealize suicide.

I remember when they put me on risperidone I got very depressed. You’ve tried several different medications so I get how you’re coming to the conclusion that AP’s make you depressed but its still possible that you can find one that doesn’t. Rexulti is actually prescribed for depression. You could also always try adding an anti depressant and see if that helps.

A few years ago I took aripiprazole along with sertraline. Also together with Luvox, and found no results.
I asked the psychiatrist the last time I saw him for rexulti, and he told me that there wasn’t much difference with vraylar.
Unfortunately, this symptom of suicidal ideation is my own on the part of antipsychotics, it is one of the less frequent ones. I read it in the medication’s package insert.
I am aware that it is rare, and that it does not happen to everyone. Otherwise the forum would be full of complaints like mine
