I don't like music

Music is sweet death. The result of painstaking effort that is sensuous makes a musician a rebel of sensuality and thus, never able to find happiness. I don’t like music.

I like music less, books more, these days.

It makes me writhe.

All sounds generated from Nature is “music”. Music expressed through people is no exception. What they express though may not be necessarily good though…If there is discord in music it is only representative of the time and of a disconnection with nature/people.

“Music is the voice that tells us the human race is greater than it knows.” - Napoleon Bonaparte

Indeed. I think that good music orients us to the sky and beyond. It is revealing of that yearning for something greater than ourselves. To think that it doesn’t come from Nature though would be illogical and a sin against what it’s telling us.

It makes sense to dislike bad music. I agree bad music is not rightfully music in the sense of what the word means.

I was writing about the pain involved in developing and maintaining the skill of musicianship. This is NOT natural.

I see. Well I agree. Still if a musician is having trouble then yeah it isn’t natural. But for some musicians the writing of music is quite easy and not forced.

Mostly I’m thinking of Beethoven and some others. I don’t know about them though since I haven’t quite developed a taste for that music yet.

Lots of modern music is definitely like that though - not natural. It becomes apparent too that they’re not happy when you read their biographies. Its like they’re spreading their own poisons through to other people who listen.

With the severe anhedonia, a good song is one of the only things I can enjoy. Maybe u just don’t find any music u like.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that about folk music or bluegrass, although Beethoven had been tormented by his father.

I was writing about the pain of performing with an instrument, not necessarily the act of composing.

I’m writing from personal experience.

BAH.

Well…then that becomes a different issue. I do know that prolonged time spent using a violin or other instruments becomes a problem.

I only remember that from reading about deep tissue massage. A therapy some musicians use to realign their bodies.

I enjoy playing often these days
… But i also find a sickness in the worry of blues

@PinCushion, what types of music have you learned or what instrument did you play? I admit that I’ve had the same experience you have trying to learn the piano. I gave it up,

I used to listen to the radio 24/7, until I was about 40 yrs old, then it happened.
One day I must have turned old because every song on the radio sounded like rocks dumped off a cliff.

Wouldn’t it just be faster to make a list of the things you like?

I was a music major in college so learned all instruments in a rudimentary way.

Gotta admit it, pixel. That was a good one. Does it ever occur to you that I am suffering and just can’t be nice about it?

I am trying to encourage you to suffer less. From where I’m sitting, you’re an intelligent individual with all kinds of potential. Hate to see it wasted rehashing old injuries, real or perceived.
