I can't find a solution to the tolerance of antipsychotics

I cannot tolerate them mentally. It is not even the weight gain that is the problem anymore. I have been thinking about several options that may solve my problem.

The first would be to talk to the psychiatrist friend of my doctor to do a trial with Evenamide, and that this complemented the antipsychotic perhaps overshadows the depressing effect that the old antipsychotic has.
The second has to do with vraylar, a way of taking it in an “intermittent” way, which is what I have been doing for 15 or 16 months.

Some days I take it, other days I don’t. This allows me to reduce the strong depression and sedation that vraylar produces.

And the most important thing I wanted to comment on. ChatGPT explained to me why when I stop taking vraylar for a short time I feel better. It’s explained to me that vraylar has 3 metabolites that block dopamine. If I don’t take it for 1 week for example, 1 metabolite is eliminated but the other 2 remain. All three block dopamine. By leaving 1, the dopaminergic blockage is less.

Sorry for making the post so long. But it helps me as a self-help guide and also because of the advice you give me that is very useful.
I
also spoke with my doctor about L-Dopa and he told me that it would not work for negative symptoms because it increases dopamine in the mesocortical pathway, and the problem is in the mesolimbic pathway.

Hi @Nirvana thanks for your interesting post. I wish you luck with you ideas to cope with antipsychotic side effects. I had a question for you. Do you think not taking Vraylar for a few days helps with weight loss and sedation? Thanks Hippo

I’m glad that this combination of medications works for you. I take caffeine pills and green tea too, but they’re not enough for me. I also took 200 mg of modafinil and it didn’t work.
I think these things happen to me because my natural dopamine is already very low without taking the antipsychotic. ChatGPT tells me I have ‘‘hypodopaminergia’’ syndrome.

Thanks! Yes, definitely not taking Vraylar for a few days already helps reduce sedation, I don’t know about weight gain, but I didn’t notice any changes. Because when you stop taking it for a few days, 1 of the 3 metabolites is eliminated. Vraylar continues to block dopamine even if you stop taking it for 1 week.

I just took my APs as directed and I eventually developed a tolerance, but it took some time. Going off and on the meds is what prevented me from developing a tolerance to them.

I took Vraylar for several years. It was a miracle med for me. I stopped it periodically because of weight gain. I think I developed a tolerance to it. I also found out Cymbalta caused weight gain too. These meds have a lot of side effects.

I’m on Zyprexa now. I got tired of being delusional on Vraylar. Maybe it was too weak.

I drink energy drinks to cope with the side effects. It doesn’t really work for me. I have major problems with motivation.
