I applied for SSI 4 months ago. Just got a denial for SSDI. What's up?

This is odd because to my knowledge SSI has nothing to do with work credits, unlike SSDI, and is a needs-based for those who are disabled and haven’t worked or didn’t earn enough credits. Is there a mixup? Any advice??

With SSDI you get back pay from when you first applied and saw a doc. I’m not really sure if this happens with SSI. I’m assuming it does happen.

I would call the SSA and ask them what’s going on.

SSDI will deny you before SSI. My husband got a letter like that.

He did get backpay from SSI from the date he applied

They must think you do not meet the requirements. In other words, you are not eligible for it.

How long did it take after that to get another letter?

I don’t remember. Sorry.
