I am pissed

I am not allowed to see a pdoc. They still didn’t call me and its been weeks. They said they will call me if I am accepted but that it will take a long time.

I waited more than 6 months before I was allowed to see my pdoc.

When? After being diagnosed or before your diagnosis?

I am already diagnosed with sz since 2012.

No recently. After my diagnosis.

I know you are angry. But it won’t do anything for you besides make you feel bad. Try to calm down.

In the US its much easier to access psychiatrists.

Yeah, but you either have to have insurance or pay from your own pocket.

Crappy system. That’s all I can say. Can you see a psychiatrist in private practice or is that too expensive?

I’m on a 12 month wait list to see a psychiatrist which will cost me $20 per visit due to qualifying for some grants bc I don’t have an income. It’s impossible to find a psychiatrist who doesn’t want $400+ per visit without insurance, and I don’t have insurance.

I’m sorry @Aziz that isn’t helpful for you. I know regular pdoc can prescribe psych drugs but it’s better to have a psych doc if you can. Keep trying. Don’t give up.

That’s very expensive! I pay my pdoc 49€ for 30 minutes and get 40€ back from insurance.

But pdocs don’t earn the same high salaries here in Belgium. Different system.

Yea, it’s not easier in the USA, not at all. In order for me to get on meds right now, I’d have to be admitted to the psych ward. The last time I was in for five days and it cost me $20,000.

That’s insane. Way too expensive.

And they wonder why people go mad, we seek help and no one’s there!

All my caseworkers keep running off. I just had a phone visit with my pdoc. The mental health system is lousy everywhere. I’m sorry they did that to you.

I hope the process is speedier than you expect and you get to see a pdoc soon @Aziz

Its a 3 month wait (at least) to see a shrink over here. Not unless your threatening harm to yourself or others.

You gotta sort of “play the game” over here lol.

I only see my shrink now once every 6 months. I go to the VA and since COVID I haven’t had an office visit. Just over the phone and my meds aren’t changing. He writes me 11 refills for everything except Xanax and Lunesta. For those he gives me 5. That’s why it’s every six months.

I used to see a shrink every week. But for a long time I wasn’t stable. So that’s why.

The VA is free but I also have insurance but very few shrinks in my area take insurance. Most you have to pay cash. I don’t know how Canada works with your free health care. Can you go and see someone if you pay out of pocket?
