Canada psychiatrists

Just talked my with my last pdoc clinic. Its ridiculous that I need to do a phone interview so they can decide if I really need a pdoc. I told them I was followed at their clinic before and I am diagnosed with sz, they didn’t care. On top of that I had to convince my family dr to give me a psychiatric consultation paper and now I have to do an interview to see if my symptoms need a pdoc. All this is to have access to a pdoc. I don’t have a pdoc since Jan 2021.

From this website I get the impression that in a lot of countries the system is broken.

Here you can just directly make an appointment with a pdoc. There are plenty of them and usually it takes a couple of weeks not months to get an appointment.

I had to get a referral from a therapist to get in to see a pdoc and it was about a 2 month wait.

Otherwise it was a 1.5 year wait

Yea before I got diagnosed with sz I wanted to see a pdoc and the gp told me I had to wait at least a year to see one. Its ridiculous.

They say health care is free in Canada but in reality we pay it with our very high taxes and even then the service sucks.

In Belgium it’s not entirely free. You get more or less 80% of the costs back from public insurance. You get more back if you have a lot of medical costs or if you’re very poor.

We also pay a lot of taxes, but I’m okay with the healthcare system here.

That was pre-covid and before the recent spiraling inflation that have been banging the crap out of everyone’s mental health. Expect a longer wait now.

My cousin is Canadian and I have a feeling he’s not getting the best quality care to treat his mental health issues.

But imagine if you can’t afford healthcare.

Doesn’t matter if you’re dead before care is offered.

Nothing like the pacemaker you are dependent on in the process of failing and your “elective” pacemaker replacement surgery getting repeatedly cancelled.

That’s horrendous.

That’s normal. I have a hard time understanding why everyone thinks our healthcare is so great? I guess it is if you can get some.

Because here you’re left with nothing but the ER as a primary for some just because they don’t turn away the uninsured or too poor to pay.

Our healthcare is great for a general doctor checkup. Everything else is huge waitlist.

Thought this was an interesting article. Canada is not in the list though.

Many Drs here go work in the US as there the salary is higher and you pay much less taxes.
