Getting a psychiatrist in canada

I know someone who just tried to get a referral for a pdoc and the waitlist is 2 years for them because there not high priority. Thats canadas cost of free healthcare…

Would almost be nice if there was a private psychiatry sector allowed. Sucks to pay but atleast you would get prompt help.

Does USA have private pdoc access?

In Belgium pdocs are private and you get most of the cost refunded by the public health insurance.

I never had issues in finding a (new) pdoc.

It’s easier to get an appointment with a Pdoc than a dentist.

I had to wait about 6 months for a public PDoc
And I’m not low priority, just pointing out it’s been bad in the US too. After COVID everything is backed up

It’s difficult to find a good psychiatrist that accepts Medicare

I was lucky to have found one

I’m still seeing a psychiatrist halfway across the province because I can’t get one where I live now. I have only been waiting since November of 2020. Thank heavens for video calls.

I don’t have a pdoc since 2021.

When I returned to the UK from Los Angeles my GP sent an urgent referral to the psychiatrist.

I was seen very quickly.

Sounds like Canada is a nightmare. UK isn’t the best either.

I’m in Canada. There’s a big shortage of psychiatrists for some reason. I had to wait 12 months to get a new pdoc, after my last pdoc retired. I don’t think I could pay a pdoc out of pocket, because I’m on disability. Even if I had a full-time job, it would be difficult. They probably charge around $200 an hour.
