I am getting acne close to my 30s and I have had some hormonal problems like hypothyroidism and polycystic ovarian syndrome. I thought the PCOS is getting better but the dermatologist last said that it’s still there and won’t be going away. I also have another hormonal disorder that I struggle with.
I wonder if it’s due to my antidepressants and/or antipsychotics??
I thought it could be a problem for all genders so I wanted to ask if anyone experiences acne with their medications.
I do get some. Not as much as teens. Even back then it was not as bad as some guys tend to have.
It could be PCOS since you have it. I don’t know how AP or AD affect acne. When I got on meds in my teens my acne were gone within a year or two.
Testosterone triggers acne for some. That’s what happens in teen boys. Another thing is ratio of sex hormones. Why teen girls get those. Despite not having as big Testo spike as boys. Maybe what goes in PCOS.
I found that if i repetitively touch a particular part of my face with my hands, I’ll get a pimple there almost certainly. So i try not to impulsively scratch my nose and stuff like that because i hate having a big pimple on the tip of my nose. Makes me look like some kind of male witch freak haha.
I had severe (like really severe) acne from about age 26 to 29. 3 years of feeling horribly embarrassed of showing my face without makeup. But even with makeup, you could see the many, many bumps.
I finally tried Accutane at age 29 and it was such a lifesaver! Well, face and shoulder saver! I just wish I had tried it sooner. Worked wonders for me.
I have a lot of acne scaring now, but I feel much more confident and even prefer no makeup nowadays! I do still apply a small amount of Tretinoin cream to my face, three times per week, to keep control of my skin. I get the occasional, very tiny, little pimple. NBD.
Have you seen a dermatologist yet? Maybe they could take a look at your skin and help get you some kind of treatment?
I went to the dermatologists several times when I was a teen and asked for solutions. No ever offerred me that. They just gave me Retinol and popped them. Short term solutions. Apparently, my dermatologists sucked.
I was the same until about four years ago. I went to a dermatologist when I still suffered from it, and we tried several things. The only thing that worked (and it really worked!) was Aczone. It was my miracle in a bottle. I’d get cystic acne along my chin around the time of my period each month, then it’d start to heal just in time for new acne to come in.
I have seen a dermatologist but we’re worried that it might be due to my hormonal issues. I haven’t tried accutane yet so hopefully it’ll be available here
I had really severe acne when j was 27. Id never even had it as a teenager. I was under huge amounts of stress and i blame it on that. I tried so many things. Eventually i was prescribed a medication and it literally burnt it off. Never had it since. It was some really strong cream.
I had really bad acne in my teens. My face got clearer and clearer with each passing decade. I’m 63 years old and my facial skin is now positively dewey. I constantly get compliments. It’s odd.
