I am contemplating getting a pet

I have to be 100 percent sure I can help look after them on my own though. I want to with my partner but he’s taking his time to move

Get a little kitten. Cats are pretty independent…not a lot of work…and can make for very cozy and loving pets.

I wish I could ,but I’d have to let it go if I move as my partner is allergic

Dogs are really not that much work once they are trained. They are a ton if you get a puppy , though. If you want something thats less work and you can’t get a cat, just find a adult dog that has at least been potty trained.

You probably also want one that is past the chewing stage.

I second @Bowens .

It’s great to get an adult dog that no longer chews, knows at least sit and come, and is potty trained. Extra bonus if they know drop it and leave it,

Dogs that are being fostered by a rescue often get trained while being fostered

One amazing thing about us humans is how we can connect to other animals. But then we are just an animal ourselves.

Please don’t get a pet unless you can commit to having it for its life. It is unfair to the pet to be adopted by someone who is iffy.

I wouldn’t. That’s why I wouldn’t get a cat.

I have both a cat and puppy, and yes having a puppy is a lot of work, my cat not so much.

Having a dog means that you will have to dedicate most of your time training and house breaking your pup.

If you are iffy about getting a dog, don’t

It takes a lot of experience and time and money to raise a puppy the correct way.

I’ve owned over 7 dogs in my lifetime

I’m only iffy about getting a dog as I’ve never had a pet, no experience with taking care of one and that’s why I’m waiting to move with my partner. My mother wouldn’t take any responsibilities for the dog.

My dog was very challenging to train

Was a lot more work than I thought

But he was and is such a character that it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made

@anon25873142 there are breeds better suited for beginner dog owners and may I suggest that you wait till you have settled down with your partner in your own place before getting a dog.

Yup but no harm in doing research right?

Aristaeus is not a lot of work, but he is an orange and white cuddle sponge. He prefers to be in my lap whenever possible.

No I did not. I wish I did though. Would have made things much easier
