I wanna adopt this cat but im afraid its too much work. And i know i dont care about my duties.
Only adopt if you know you will look after the cat, I have no pets, I often want one but I know I will tire of looking after them
I have two cats and a dog. The most work is the litter box but if you have a back yard and a doggie door it’s not too much work. They go outside to do their business.
I agree with Mountainman. If you know you won’t look after them, I wouldn’t do it.
I thought maybe i could force myself to look after her.
Pets are wonderful companions but take some work. Please only make the decision once you are sure you can commit. Pets need care and love.
Yeah I’m dying to get a dog but I’m not sure if I’m ready yet, so I’m not adopting one right now.
Pets like dogs and cats need lots of attention.
Plus they are expensive over time.
Cats are pretty low maintenance,
I have three dogs and its exhausting.
Really with cats you just have to keep their food and water refreshed,
And clean a litter box, if they’re inside.
And massage station
I have lived with animals my whole life. Grew up on a small farm.
I currently have a cat and a dog cats are very low matinance especially if they can go outside to do their business.
Plus if they are hungry they will let you know!
Not to mention all the love and cuddles and joy they bring I couldn’t live without my animals.
Cats are low maintenance but you still have to feed them and give them water every single day without fail. You also have to clean out the litter box every day. Cats only like clean litter boxes and if you don’t clean it they’ll poop and pee on your carpets and floors. They can be great companions and are very therapeutic. But only do it if you can commit to doing the caring for them every single day.
In my opinion, if you get the right pert, it will improve your life and make you happy. If you get the wrong pet in can interfere in your life in a irritating way on a daily basis. I’m just speaking in general terms. But generally speaking, the perfect dog or cat does not exist. In my experience most any animals have at least one or two bad habits or faults that you will have to adjust to.
Cats can have problems I’m not trying to be negative I’m trying to be realistic. Like I said, pets can be a blessing, a loving good natured pet can bring you endless pleasure and companionship. One thing I absolutely hate in a cat is those types of cats that are afraid of people. My ex-brother-in-law had a cat that when I was house-sitting the cat would run out of the room or under the couch every time I entered a room.
It was so frustrating. I had a cat on the other hand who was perfectly calm and friendly around most people. He was afraid of certain people but not often. And this cat was really affectionate and mellow and good natured. I had him as an indoor cat when I lived alone and he just loved to being around me without being annoying about it. When I got on the computer he just loved to sit at my feet and I could pet him occasionally. But some animals just have bad personalities or temperaments. I absolutely do not want to scare you off from getting a pet but I’m just trying to give you things to think about.
Just a comment about indoor cats vs outdoor cats. Indoor cats tend to have a longer life span than outdoor a cats. An indoor cat can have a life expectancy of as much as 7 or 8 years more than an outdoor at. This is because outdoor cats ae more susceptible to diseases and injuries, they also face getting in fights with other cats or dogs or they have to face violence from kids or other sadistic strangers or they might get run over by a car. I don’t know if cats experience stress the way a human does, but if they do, I would guess that living outdoors for a cat would be more stressful than living a calm, safe life in someone’s house.
But if you ae seriously considering getting this cat or any others , you can pick up simple books that will have vey good, helpful information on getting cats for pets and how to take care of them. Cats can be pretty low maintenance. They need to be fed twice a day and the litter box has to be scooped and cleaned on a regular basis. Anyways, thinking it through before getting a pet is essential. You would have the cat for 8 or 9 or more years and investing a week or two into knowing what to prepare for and what to expect is not a lot of time considering how long you might have him. A book might suggest giving a cat a through check-up by a veterinarian to see if he/she has any health problems. To see if the cat has any obvious or hidden medical problems. I live in California. My sisters bought me my cat (I had to give up my cat when moved by the way) for my birthday. I was going to get my own anyway and I was planning to adopt one from the shelter. But my sisters, who are always on the ball, had looked into getting one from a local Pet Supply store. The pet store allowed an outside organization to use space in their stores to match up people and cats. So the organization had about a dozen or more cats in cages to give away. The organization made sure every cat was thoroughly checked out for medical problems, they gave all the cats the correct immunizations, and even installed a chip in the cat in case the cat ran away or got lost it could be identified by the chip and returned to me. (no the cat or the organization was not schizophrenic, lol. It was an actual chip, lol).
Go for it! I want a kitten as well but i might need to train it how to use the litter box
Most kittens learn naturally
@mermaid1 you need to invest in one of these for Missti.

I’ll admit I feel bad for my second cat because she can’t get enough attention and it really annoys me. She zips around like a bullet and lands on my lap occasionally. Doesn’t get the routine. My other cat will come up and ask/beg to get on my lap instead of forcing himself up there.
She might learn.
There are advantage’s to getting a cat that is grown a little vs a kitten. With a cat that is grown a little some of his traits and his/her temperament is established so you will find of now what you ae getting into. With a kitten you are just taking your luck with how they will turn out. Just like a human baby, some of a kittens nature can be hidden and will manifest itself a little later. But the cute kitty mewing for supper and sleeping in a tiny ball and nuzzling your hand can possibly later turn into Linda Blair from The Exorcist.
Or even worse, Gary Busey in any movie he’s been in.
Cats are pretty low maintenance - just feed three times a day and clean out litter box every night, plus take out all the litter every 2 weeks. I have two cats so I have to put in fresh litter ever 1.5 weeks. Note, my cats will get very mad at me if I do not keep their litter box clean and will pee and poop on my bed if I don’t do the cleaning job.
If you can handle that, then having a pet cat is a lot of fun and makes one (me at least) less lonely. Also, they help me through times when I’m feeling depressed.
Please take the cost into consideration. Also, you will have to shop for the cat - carrying heavy bags of litter/kibble and cans.
Hey thanks for advice. I agree that certain cat pesonality is important. I looked at the pics of all the cats in the shelter and some of them were kittens and really cute…but it wasnt “my cat”. I think i would not love any cat. It must be a special cat.
