Everytime no matter what antipsychotics I am on I always feel so freaking hungry all the damn time and I don’t know what to do about it. How do you guys keep up with it?

It’s something I still struggle with after being on seroquel for 7 years. I always get hungry at night. Always. Doesn’t matter how much I eat prior. A lot of times I cave in and eat, sometimes I just have a light snack, sometimes way too much. I just have to keep telling myself it’s not real hunger, it’s the medication. Journaling helps to remind myself that. I think building up that habit consistently over time will be what finally gets me over it. I feel your struggle though, it’s one of the main side effects of our APs.

Loxapine and Latuda and Geodon are low hunger medicines. No one should have hunger that can’t be satisfied. The worst part of being mentally ill 1996- 2006 was the hunger. It’s inhuman. I was on Zyprexa and I slept 12 hours a day too.

I think Latuda makes me hungry. I always eat late at night, right before bed like @thomas described. One of the side effects listed for Latuda is weight gain

Yeah. I’m hungry a lot to. APs Must affect that part of the brain. I don’t eat all the time. Really only 2-3 times a day. But I’m almost always hungry

I’m on Latuda and I’m not that hungry.

Consider yourself lucky. I don’t have any of the other listed possible side effects for Latuda, but weight gain is a problem. Of course, that coincides with my sedentary lifestyle and poor diet. But I snack almost all day, and eat 3 fairly large meals on top of that.

Get a bowl of fruits. Eat a plate of veggies or oats. Exercise.
Then you should be fine.

Clozapine makes me hungry, too. It’s been found that atypical antipsychotics increase the levels of the hormone ghrelin (which tells the body to eat) and reduce the hormone leptin, which tells the body it is full. I never like crave fruits or veggies, it’s always cookies, chocolate, etc.

I must admit to you that I’m 16 pounds over weight and I have lived of oats ray and weggies and a little bit of meat most days for six years I’ve not gained any weight during that time but neither have I lost any weight. So all in all a stand still.
