How to stop freaking out

Along with being a schizo I have a serious anxiety problem. I heard that’s common with schizophrenia and I don’t even know where the anxiety is coming from half the time. Just feels like my brain is malfunctioning. I’m always paranoid of surveillance too.

So how do you feel calm?

Easy answer - a benzo

Or you can talk about your anxieties with a therapist, it does help

I also have bad anxiety along with psychosis. Klonopin helped a lot in the short term. Not sure what I can do long term.

I take clonidine and ativan for anxiety I’m not on high doses of those meds thankfully.

I have the same problems. I have very bad anxiety which can turn into paranoia. I take gabapentin as needed. I, also, supplement with l theanine. In all honesty part of me has to just live with it unfortunately.

Right meds maybe - Sometimes anxiety is caused by what you take.

benzos and distractions.

I’m stealing this from @Ninjastar, who has amazing advice:

Some things I do to calm down are:

Put an ice pack on the back of your head. This will cool down your brain and reduce activity in your limbic system, where emotions happen.

Do a task with simple, clear steps. I like baking. I follow the recipe, and it’s easy enough that I don’t get frustrated, but it requires enough concentration that I don’t have room to think about other things. Cleaning also helps.

Engage your five senses. This will remind you what is real and what isn’t. Listen to soothing music. Smell something pleasant, like an essential oil. Suck on a hard candy. Look at pictures of things you enjoy. Feel something with an interesting texture, like a piece of Velcro or a stress ball.

When I am being anxious, it means my brain is creating problems where none exist. Once I realize that I’m worrying about nothing, I can let it go.

Ask your voices to take away your anxiety. They might help if you’re willing to talk to them.

If you don’t hear voices. Try watching a scary movie to take your mind off of your problems and think of other people’s problems.

If you don’t like scary movies, try being devotional or meditating. These things are known to lower the heartrate and bring calm to the practitioner.

If none of these are good try showering. Everyday rituals calm you down and water is soothing.

I use CBD oil 10 mg in the am and a benzo in the afternoon. Klonipin specifically, 0.5 mg. once as needed.

@Skinnyme1 - does CBD oil 10 mg help with anxiety? If so, where can I get it? I’m having such a BAD anxiety attack now. :fearful:
