I'm having anxiety

I just suddenly got really bad anxiety. Now I’m shaking and using the bathroom a lot, and every sound I hear feels loud and threatening
I’ve taken a seroquel but it hasn’t kicked in yet.

I wanna cry

Some things I do to calm down are:

Put an ice pack on the back of your head. This will cool down your brain and reduce activity in your limbic system, where emotions happen.

Do a task with simple, clear steps. I like baking. I follow the recipe, and it’s easy enough that I don’t get frustrated, but it requires enough concentration that I don’t have room to think about other things. Cleaning also helps.

Engage your five senses. This will remind you what is real and what isn’t. Listen to soothing music. Smell something pleasant, like an essential oil. Suck on a hard candy. Look at pictures of things you enjoy. Feel something with an interesting texture, like a piece of Velcro or a stress ball.

Try to levitate something with your mind. You obviously won’t succeed, but it gets you to focus all of your attention on a single point outside your body, instead of on your thoughts. I like to use this on airplanes or in public places, because it doesn’t require you to move at all. It looks like you’re just daydreaming to observers.

Some say fear is a choice.

Try alternating hot and cold showers

That’s… A very counterproductive and insensitive thing to say.

Anxiety Happens. It’s not a choice . This is important to understand. Nobody that I have ever know or heard about has ever made a choice to feel anxious , afraid, stressed, depressed, or any one of the countless emotions that we are all capable of feeling.20

I said fear not anxiety

just researching myself

Anxiety attacks are a physiological response. Your pulse speeds up, your vision narrows, your breathing gets shallow and quick, etc. Your body is preparing to get itself out of danger. All the anxiety tricks are just ways to get your body to stop that preparation. It is a very good evolutionary trait that keeps us alive, but is also very inconvenient when it is misfiring. You aren’t doing anything wrong, anxiety happens.

The universal trigger for fear is the threat of harm, real or imagined. This threat can be for our physical, emotional or psychological well-being. While there are certain things that trigger fear in most of us, we can learn to become afraid of nearly anything.

However, when feelings of intense fear and distress become overwhelming and prevent us from doing everyday activities, an anxiety disorder may be the cause. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health concern in the United States. Over 40 million adults in the U.S. (19.1%) have an anxiety disorder .

I was diagnosed with GAD

I studied it a long time

Sorry you are going through that @Miika. Maybe try contacting your pdoc or a friend to talk to. Same here sometimes. Hate anxiety and paranoia. Try to take it easy.:rainbow::heart:

dont worry
nothing will happen
try to reassure urself
it might happened before and nothing happened

When I used to felt really overwhelmed and anxious in crowds and paranoid I’d repeat a mantra of I’m fine I’m fine I’m fine. Everything is going to be OK everything is going to be OK.

I also sometimes used to slowly count down from 10 to 0. It distracted my mind from the overwhelming feeling somewhat.

I’ve recently started enjoying your posts. You’ve grown as a person. I noticed.

Whatever you’re doing looks good on you! :hugs:
