How to reduce prolactin induced by risperidone/paliperidone

I’m male and want to try risperidone but I’m prolactin phobic(enlarged breasts)

I’m not able to take abilify 10mg which reduces prolactin as it worsens my anxiety/crying. I have not tried low doses though like 2.5 or 5mg

Is there any other safe options to reduce prolactin ?

Would your mammary glands actually have to start producing milk for there to be a change in your chest size? I would see a doctor if they actually were because that would be highly irregular.

Omg I’m having the same problem! I lactate on EVERYTHING. I’m on haldol right now, and my doc has me on 5 mg abilify to reduce prolactin but it’s hard to tell if it’s doing anything. You could definitely ask your pdoc about reducing the abilify without discontinuing it.

First, confirm it is truly elevated by repeating the lab test and sending it to an endocrine reference lab. The best one is owned by LabCorp – called Esoterix in California. Second, perform an MRI with and without contrast of the brain and pituitary gland. Third, see a board-certified endocrinologist for possible treatment.

Why perform an MRI when your prolactin is elevated due to a drug such as risperidone

are u male/female ? Since how long u been on haldol ? If i start haldol, how much would it take for me to start lactating or get big breasts?

what other drugs u lactate on ?

I mean
If i start haldol, how much time would it take for me to start lactating or get big breasts?

it is rare to get breasts on meds and even if your prolactin is high u can get it checked and make changes before it has any effect on your body like enlarged breasts i was worried about it to before i started paliperidone but now im not worried and so far no side effects, you can get your prolactin levels checked at a doctor if you are really worried about it but when it comes to meds everyone is different so just because some people have had increased prolactin and breasts doesnt mean everyone who takes it will

Prolactin is produced by the pituitary gland, part of the brain that sits in a recess on the bottom of the skull. Too much prolactin may be due to a type of non cancerous tumor called an adenoma. The MRI is to check for such a tumor to see if there is a visible growth in the brain causing the elevation.

This problem can only be solved by seeing your doctor and being evaluated face-to-face. After a thorough examination, your doctor should be able to tell you what’s wrong and what to do about it.

Low dose abilify could help, like even 2 mg.

I’m female. I’ve been on haldol in the past but this time I’ve been on it this time for a few weeks. Totally depends how long it would take… depends how fast your prolactin is raised (which can be influenced by the dose you’re on). For me it took a few days. But like I said abilify solves that mostly.

I lactate on Risperidone too, that one is even worse. I think I’ve been on other ones too just can’t remember off the top of my head.

I lactated on risperidone and made it worse by stimulating them, if you cant go off risperidone then i will suggest to leave your nipples alone. Your chest wont grow with increased prolactin alone but it will grow with weight gain from risperidone. If you can you can change to another antipsychotic on doctors advice to reduce prolactin and weight gain (ie rexulti which is what im taking)

I’m having a blood test soon and I’ll be going in to see my psychiatrist at some point after that. I suspect it’s high. I will tell you the options available after I’ve talked with her. My nurse said she can add a medication to lower it don’t necessarily have to change it .
