How to lose belly fat that is caused by medication?

So, I am on 2 antipsychotics: Latuda and Seroquel. I started the Seroquel not too long ago, and it has made me gain almost 20 pounds. I’m worried that my weight will keep increasing.

I’ve been trying not to eat unhealthy foods. I eat lots of vegetables. I started exercising, maybe a month ago, but my weight has only gone up…

Do you guys have any advice on how to lose weight, specifically around the waist? All of the weight I’ve gained is in my belly and hips.

You’ll likely keep gaining on Seroquel.

I gained over 70lbs on that ■■■■.

Honestly, I’d ask my doctor for a different medication.

I don’t know, I ditched the Depakote because it was such a big weight gaining med but now I noticed that my hunger has increased since raising my Risperdal dose.
I can’t fukkin win!

I ended up researching the non-weight gaining meds online and have been doing pretty well since…

Got my weight right down, but I stopped exercising, and Pregabalin increased. So, I have belly fat again

Not a good look…

Anyways, sometimes you’re fighting a losing battle with certain meds

Try a weight neutral AP like Geodon, Latuda, Abilify etc Also I believe lithium is a weight gainer too and you’re on it. Really, belly fat is the hardest to lose.

That’s how I gained with Seroquel. For me, it was 80 pounds in a short time. I switched to Geodon and lost some. Then I went on olanzapine and gained it all back.

The answer for me was to take Haldol, exercise 5 days a week, and eat 1200 calories a day until I met my weight goal. Now I eat 1600 calories per day. I lost 100 pounds in 13 months doing that

I tried Haldol. Was super upset when I had to come off it due to movement problems. The doctor tried high doses of Diazepam and Procyclidine but they did not help :frowning:

I know on paper it looked good even though it was an older med, but not for me I guess!

At least it didn’t cause a relapse like Abilify did!

Thanks for all the responses, guys. @Charles_Foster @Wave @Joker @Aziz @LilyoftheValley

I see my pdoc for a video visit, in a few minutes. I will talk to her about the weight gain. Maybe I can at least lower the dose of the Seroquel? I don’t really have many options, for meds. I’ve tried almost everything. And I have already developed a movement disorder, from the meds, which further reduces my options.

So, I saw my pdoc. She says that she will message me on Monday, to see if I still feel mostly stable. If I am, then I can decrease Seroquel from 800mg to 700mg. And then a week after that, if I still feel mostly stable, I can decrease from 700mg to 600mg.

Also maybe try to walk more often to the park with your dog etc Burning more calories. I know its hard though with negative symptoms, I have them.

Increase the dose of Latuda and quit Seroquel would be my advice. I’m on Latuda, it’s an alright medicine. If the doctor tells me oh, you’ll just gain about ten pounds if you go on this or that, I tell them then my blood pressure will go up 50 points and they shut up. 10 pounds! More like 100! It’s uncomfortable physically, causes diabetes, back and knee trouble. The worst part of it is your hunger can’t be satisfied. It gets expensive and your freedom decreases because your needs become too great. I think all the ap medicine created after geodon have been no hunger or low hunger.
