If any of you suffer from an awful memory like I do, what do you do to improve it?
No one can remember everything so first thing is declutter what you can. So keep a pen and paper with you to keep notes at all times. Strategic games like chess, sudoku etc are often used to stop the onset of alzheimers and improve memory. There is also tons of memory games on the net often free and at all levels that will help. Computer strategy games are plentiful and everywhere so bound to be something that you will enjoy and help.
Omega-3 is pretty much brain food and will help. I take it for a supplement with my meds as also helps reduce symptoms of many of the mental illnesses . Bipolar, Depression, attention deficit disorder and schizophrenia. Ginkgo is anther one as gives a clear mind so easier to focus. Vitamin B groups also help. All up I just take Natureās Way Brain and Memory Booster and a Multi- vitamin each morning
Basic healthy sleeping habits also helps, Itās worth googling sleep hygiene and getting more help and info for a goodnight sleep
Iāve been trying to improve my memory too. I find⦠I hate to say that I have a more accurate memory when I cut back on my beloved coffee. It seems like 2 cups isnāt enough, but 6 is too much.
Iāve also been giving myself little memory tests like write a specific small shopping list before I head out⦠about 6 items. Then leave the list at home and see if I can remember what 6 items I was going to pick up.
Being in school Iāve been making flash cards and that does help. A really good day planner isnāt cheating. I used to be mad at myself for needing a day planer, but then when a day gets busy⦠who doesnāt need a little extra help.
The Luminosity stuff on line has been helping too.
Thanks @SurprisedJ and @Dreamscape this is really helpful.
My pdoc prescribed me Donepezil. Heās one of those pdocs who if you have a problem immediately wants to give you another pill. Anyway, the Donepezil was originally for Alzheimerās patients to improve cognition and memory. Its helping a lot with my schoolwork as my antipsychotic was making me stupid. Playing brain games helps keep your mind in shape too. http://www.helpguide.org/life/improving_memory.htm

Geniuses think productively, not reproductively.
First of all, I havenāt time to suffer over my memory problems. I keep going. If I lose out on something. I keep going. Somehow, somewhere a long the way with my Exploring Doe Eyes Wide, I manage to keep going. For me, to suffer in this area would be to step into the realm of self-pity. Thatās not to say it doesnāt sting when I lose.
Secondly, I read material about intelligence, retaining knowledge, memory enhancers and, as I privately praise experts who know the difference between productivity and reproductivity, I, with manners inclusively orientated, construct my own genius and guide myself to concentrate on details until I am blue in the face.

BuzsĆ”kiās Rhythms of the Brain is a prized book, or pdf, worth reading to understand oscillations are important, just as sleep is crucial.
There are learning styles to become familiar with when expecting to memorize tasks, material.
Lastly, I eat organic whole foods, which are bioavailable. Synthetic vitamins, etc., are not bioavailable. Besides the marketed omegas, omega 7 is also very important.
I am watching what is happening with Smart Pills.
Although I am amazed by biohackers, I will not follow suit and use Provigil. To be brief, glutamic leaking within the blood-brain barrier concerns me, to start.
You guys have great tips to improve memory. I have problems with both attention and memory, but it seems to be more prominent in my social interactions. For some reason I can remember facts, but not what someone just said. I also have problems remembering things that happen in my life, but like I said if I read something it sticks. I also learned I have to be careful cooking. I have forgotten in the past that I had the stove on. Thank god nothing happened, but now I use a timer to remind me. What works best for me is writing everything out. I know there are different types of memory. It would be interesting to learn why I can remember what I learn, but not personal details.
fish oils are good for the whole brain, cod liver oil. turmeric stop plaque deposits in the brain, blueberries have been found to help memory in studies with rats.
USING it suduko or brain training
i have an ocd learning about meds. what does the med do? how do you feel on it smarter like a smart pill?
Ginkgo Bilobaā¦and Ginsengā¦although I havenāt had ginseng regularly for awhile. I do take Ginkgo.
Iāve been told my memory has always been good. I think I occasionally āforgetā things simply because I take in so much and tend to do a million projects at once. Forgetting where I lay a tool or put a bill or some other important paper tends to be my memory problemā¦
The Ginkgo/ginseng combination was found significantly to improve an Index of Memory Quality, supporting a previous finding with the compound. This effect represented an average improvement of 7.5% and reflected improvements to a number of different aspects of memory, including working and long-term memory.
nootropics r supposed to b good for memory as are fishoils. the best is omax pharmaceutical grade but they r expensive. i used to order them for my parents and myself. other than that i write lists to help me remember things as my mind is so full of shite that i find ot difficult to remember things aswell. good luck hunni xxx
Learn something new. Every day. Whether you feel like it or not. Hereās tonightās lesson in my home:

I try my darndest to improve on my functional memory - but my medication (Haldol) makes that task extremely difficult. I often forget what the date is and other rudimentary things.
From what Iāve read about Donepezil, brand name Aricept, it is a acetylcholinesterase (another neurotransmitter) inhibitor. I find that it is helping me personally get back on track. but as I google it Iām finding both sides of it actually helping people with negative symptoms.

Nevertheless, AChEIs are relatively safe and occasionally have been dramatically effective in a small subgroup of schizophrenia patients when used as augmentation. They may represent a reasonable approach:
- when other adjuncts have failed
- as a supplement to other augmentation strategies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or family therapy.
Iāve been reading more about nootropics and how they can potentially benefit their users brain health, memory and mood. Particularly Adrafinil, Tianeptine and Piracetam are what I am considering using after reading on LongeCity and Reddit. I did notice that Smart Drugs for Thought has a downloadable PDF about the racetam nootropics and how they work on the āPiracetam Researchā page.
Write things downā¦in the military I was required to have a (pen, waterproof paper, and certain handbooks).
I carried this stuff everywhere. The question is how soon you want to get squared away man! Waterproof paper can write in water (like a showerā¦) Get a pamphlet necklace and just do everything with it. Whatever you do you can improve on thingsā¦
