Was wondering what kind of dosages other people take. I take 4 milligrams once a day at night. Was taking 3 for a long time but always had to increase it from time to time to get by. My doctor was increasing it but told him I couldn’t take anymore because of the stiff muscles. Doing good on 4 mg . How about you?
At one point they had me on 40 mg a day. That was a living hell. Then I got put on the decoate shot, and I was getting almost 5 mg a day. That wasn’t pleasant. Then they decreased it, and my symptoms were still gone. I eventually got down below 3 mg a day. I was also taking ephedrine, drinking a lot of coffee, and doing moderate exercise. I found out that this routine could make me euphoric. It also allowed my behavior to get out of control. One Thanksgiving the family was sitting around the den making nice conversation, and I was pacing back and forth talking about death and destruction. They called the police, and I was put back in the hospital. They switched me from Haldol to Zyprexa, but that’s another story.

I am on 10 mg of Haldol and doing good on it with not really any side effects

I get 100 mg of the injection once a month and I can take 1 to 4 mg a day as a PRN. As I get close to the end of the month I always end up taking 4 mg.

I was on Zyprexa for quite a few years. They should keep track of your sugar levels. I have been back on Haldol since my stay in the State Hospital 10 years ago. I haven’t been in the hospital since. I was in and out every few years for a long time until I got on the Haldol decoate shots. I would get confused and not take my medications or I thought someone was tampering with them.

I was on Zyprexa only for a short while, and I craved sugar the whole time I was on it. I’ve heard Zyprexa is bad to give a person diabetes. Now I am on Geodon and Seroquel and doing well. I know what you mean about getting confused about your med’s. If I didn’t have a med tray I would mess up royally in taking my med’s.

I am on haldol depot. Went down from 50mg to 30mg every 4 weeks. They are now trying if I can get lower. I hope so.

I am forever grateful for the Haldol decanoate shots. For years I kept trying to self medicate with alcohol and cocaine. I worked a good job during the time but kept ending up in the hospital. I had symptoms whether or not I drank or used drugs. I just felt terrible. The drinking and drugs would take the edge off, but, inevitably aggravate my Schizophrenia and Bi-Polar condition. I don’t remember all of the different medication I was on. I started out on Haldol when I was a teenager. Then some counselor told me that I didn’t need that. In my twenties I had to start seeing a Psychiatrist again and he put me on something to help me. Not sure what it was but I stopped taking it because I stopped seeing him. At 27 I had a full psychotic break when I was overseas. For another 15 years I was in an out of the hospitals, Risperdal worked fairly well. Zyprea worked fantastic except I developed Diabetes from it. I didn’t care for Seroquel at all - I was on that for quite a few years.
I think the dosage of all of those medicines is different depending on how it affects each individual. Just because one person is taking 20 mg of haldol a day and another is taking 5 mg of haldol a day doesn’t really mean that the person on 20 mg is suffering more than the person on 5 mg. Also, you can’t compare decanoate with oral. I’ve heard from someone in the medical field that injections can be 10 times stronger that oral. Not sure if this is the case with decanoate. All I know is that I am grateful that medication exists.

I got diabetes when I was on Zyprexa. It worked fantastic but the doc switched me to Seroquel. That never really stabilized me. The haldol is working good.
