I am 5’7" and 1/2 and I weigh 190lbs. Ever since I started Clozapine I gained almost 10lbs. I tried dieiting and don’t really exercise. I tried a diet pill called Keto Slim, and did not get any results. I heard about metformin being prescribed for weight loss, but I do know it is a pill for type 2 diabetes. Should I inquire about metformin to my pdoc? I don’t have diabetes or hyperglycemia.
Metformin can decrease your appetite but it doesn’t seem to do it to a great extent. I’m on 1500mg a day for my blood sugar.
Something that seems to do a better job at decreasing my appetite is this

Oh I didnt realise they prescribe it for weight loss that’s interesting
@anon90843118, yea the research I did. I found out that people who take APs that make them gain weight, some get diabetes and are prescribed metformin for weight loss. But it says it can lower your blood sugar. I already get orthostatic hypotension, and low blood pressure, so I was wondering if people who don’t have high blood sugar, take metformin
thanks @everhopeful, I already calorie count, but I cant shed off any pounds
I’ve been on Metformin for years.
It’s not a weight loss drug but I did manage to shed a lot of weight on it for the first 6 months or so.
If you don’t have hyperglycemia or diabetes then I don’t see the point being on this drug.
Although it has many health benefits beyond just lowering blood glucose.
thanks @Wave I must have had selective reading just like selective hearing haha. I read what I wanted to, and made the wrong connection. Thanks for clearing it up for me!
Sure thing @Winterblues
I talked a primary doctor into prescribing it for me. Usually, a person would have diabetes, pre-diabetes or metabolic syndrome to obtain it.
Some people get digestive reactions to it.
Some research suggested it might help indolent cancers. There are a lot on clinical trials regarding cancer and life extension.
I have diabetes 2. I was on Metformin. It caused Metabolic Acidosis.
