Have asked my regular doctor to prescribe me Metformin to help with weight gain. I read a really good article that said it can help with weight gain caused by APs in people with Sz/SzA. Has anyone else tried this? Did it work? My doctor is concerned it might cause my blood sugar to drop really low, has this happened to anyone?
I’m on it for high blood sugar. Get regular blood tests to make sure you don’t have any problems.
I have Type 2 Diabetes.
I was prescribed Gucophage/Metformin to control my blood glucose levels.
It is an effective medication.
Don’t think too many doctors would prescribe Metformin as a weight loss drug.

“The authors found evidence that adjunctive metformin was associated with significantly greater reductions in weight, BMI, and metabolic parameters than placebo during antipsychotic treatment in patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Findings suggest more robust effects of metformin earlier in the course of the disorder. They concluded that metformin should have more widespread use in patients with antipsychotic-induced weight gain.”
Everyone is different.
My weight loss with Metformin was temporary.
It’s primarily a type 2 Diabetes drug.
Well good luck with it.
