How do you guys distinguish between a belief and a delusion?

A delusion is a strongly held belief that can be disproven by logic right?

My beliefs aren’t on my mind 24/7, but I don’t believe they can disproven.

So I guess it’s a semi delusion.

How often do you think about strange beliefs?

How often do you think about delusions?
  • Constantly

  • Every few hours

  • Through out the week

  • Every few months

  • Never

  • Only when I am in psychosis

“A delusion is a belief that is clearly false and that indicates an abnormality in the affected person’s content of thought. The false belief is not accounted for by the person’s cultural or religious background or his or her level of intelligence. The key feature of a delusion is the degree to which the person is convinced that the belief is true. A person with a delusion will hold firmly to the belief regardless of evidence to the contrary. Delusions can be difficult to distinguish from overvalued ideas, which are unreasonable ideas that a person holds, but the affected person has at least some level of doubt as to its truthfulness. A person with a delusion is absolutely convinced that the delusion is real. Delusions are a symptom of either a medical, neurological, or mental disorder”

I wonder myself if my beliefs are delusions or not. They are very real to me although others don’t share them

That’s a good summary.

A belief is that the cute 50 year old woman soldier at work likes me a little. A delusion would be acting on it.

I find what helps for me to dinstinguish is to reason with myself. Ask logical questions and if you can’t answer those questions then something is wrong. That doesen’t mean the thoughts necessarily go away, but I get a good indication if I’m headed for psychosis or not, at least if my mind keeps acting up like that over a longer period of time.
