Bipolar still means crazy though. I hear people in the workplace throw that word around a bit.

There’s still lots of stigma behind the bipolar name.

Yeah I wish they changed the name for schizophrenia and schizoaffective also.

Could possibly lessen the stigma a bit.

But I must admit, the stigma behind bipolar is a lot less than schizophrenia or schizoaffective.

I always thought that schizoaffective has the least stigma attached to it.

It qualifies as neither bipolar or schizophrenia alone. Therefore, no one knows much about it.

I don’t wanna change. :sob:. I’m old and stubborn though. I think no matter what we call it, it will be the same old disorder. Also, I really don’t think the average person knows that schizophrenia means split mind, so that would only be for those of us who know. I really dont see how it comes into play.

I think we should call it Prince…

if i named the illness based on my experience it would be like persistent auditory hallucination syndrome. as that particular symptom was the fuel for all my other symptoms and once i found a med that got rid of it im basically normal. not the case for most sz’s tho

Some countries actually have changed the name!

“Japan was the first country to change the previously used name of schizophrenia, “Seishin-Bunretsu-Byo” (mind-split-disease) into the new name of “Togo-Shitcho-Sho” (integration disorder).’”

In solidarity with the Japanese the name should be changed to Sh!tshow

Lol! Yes, I want it to be named “sh**-show”. Haha.

But in all seriousness, I do like the translated name that the Japanese picked, “integration disorder”.

I’ve seen guys in a manic episode, and they were way out there. There was no way they could have functioned in society without medication.

we get the worse stigma ever. they may as well ask us to wear a paper bag over our heads lol

i really dont get what they are trying to say? what does it mean? i dont get it lol,

Why cant they just say severe mental illness and then have subtypes (i feel that would be much nicer)

ie Severe mental illness

Featuring subtypes:

  • Delusions
  • psychosis
  • paranoia
    etc…
