How can sz be genetic when siblings don't have it?

I think drugs caused mine. Messing around with dopamine too much.

My brother is perfectly normal.

Here’s a theory that could help you understand it.
Recessive: Both parents healthy, 1/4 chance of defective variants being passed on
Dominant: One parent schizophrenic, 1/2 chance of defective variant being passed on
De novo: Completely new mutation and most likely dominant. In this case, it’s completely new and you might be the one starting the inheritance depending on what mode of inheritance it is.
Meaning that your brother might’ve got the completely normal copy, or if it is recessive inheritance, your brother got ONE carrier mutation but the other chromosome compensates for it.

because antidepressant can cause genetic change and trigger psychosis. if ur siblings never took them , they may never develop
schizophrenia at all.

Nice info! That’s what I was trying to say, you can still have SZ genetics even if your parents don’t have them activated or not at all. I just don’t remember the exact mechanism.

You make me remember my Cell Biology university class. I was going to take a Genetics class too but I ended up taking a psychology (Psychopathology) class instead as an elective.

I wonder if there are mutations in the DISC1 gene in me- that’s Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1 gene, one of the genes that are thought to cause schizophrenia.

I would have to do whole genome sequencing to find out. I just did basic neuromuscular panel for my genetic disease.

I just know a lot because I wanted to know more about my genetic mutations.

Wikipedia talks about SZ and genetics:

"Around 5% of cases of schizophrenia are understood to be at least partially attributable to rare copy-number variations (CNVs); these structural variations are associated with known genomic disorders involving deletions at 22q11.2 (DiGeorge syndrome), duplications at 16p11.2 16p11.2 duplication (most frequently found) and deletions at 15q11.2 (Burnside-Butler syndrome). Some of these CNVs increase the risk of developing schizophrenia by as much as 20-fold, and are frequently comorbid with autism and intellectual disabilities.

The genes CRHR1 and CRHBP have been shown to be associated with a severity of suicidal behavior."

Sza is genetic. Although my grandmother was never diagnosed, she was always very paranoid. My father was never diagnosed either but he was always very paranoid and delusional.

I was diagnosed sza. My son was diagnosed paranoid sz. My grand niece was diagnosed sza.

Oh, so the mutations are most likely copy-number variants, like deletions and duplications. That’s really interesting.

You should read about how Tay-Sachs Disease in adults can cause co-morbidities like schizophrenia.

First one in my family. I guess I won the lottery…

My Uncle and his Aunt had it. My brothers don’t have it and my Mother didn’t. My father is a subjective case. When he smoked weed one time he had 2 voices in his head for a while but they went away when he stopped smoking it. I don’t know how long they lasted but he evidently struggled in his mind as to why they had existed for possibly years. He’s gone now so I can’t quiz him further. My relatives on his side say there is no more of it in the family (my schizophrenic Uncle is deceased as well) but I feel they are hiding something.

I think, my normal siblings have the same gene. But who suffer the environmental factors become the schizophrenic. SZ is internal processes of overcoming the environmental factors. Wheather most of this overcoming process is imagery, like delusions. And it also comes with grandiose thinking, which refers to overcome the environmental situations.

I think it’s some kind of genetic reasons. Like it increases likelihood but not necessarily everyone will get it. Also environmental factors. I happen to be the least social in my house and had the most rocky relationship with my mum so that might all have contributed. Plus the drugs.

I think several environmental factors caused it in me.

My parents were different towards me than towards my brothers too. I was sexually abused. I made some stupid choices (bad partner choice) that lead to revictimization, i got pregnant, i used medication which triggered psychosis. I had years of extreme fear before becoming psychotic.

I think with my genes and a life like my brothers had/have, i wouldnt have gotten sz.

read Gregory Bateson’s double bind theory schizophrenia.

My parents and siblings are normal but my sister inclined towards bipolar and was once diagnosed with it some years back. But she copes without meds. My maternal grandfather had alcoholism and depression. Other than that my family are normal and I’m the only one with sza. I guess there was a lot of inactive genes passed to me (probably from my mom’s side) and activated in me when I had stressful time in my life. I was always a anxious timid person even as a child but my breakdown happened when I was only 18.
