High pulse

Do i need to get it checked out? My nurse said my pulse is on the higher end during my physical obs tests a few times now. Is it really worth trying to get an appointment?

What can a high pulse represent exactly? I thought it’s just because of smoking

My pulse was high for a long time and then went down just from diet and exercise

It can happen because of your AP

I see. I just googled abilify and high pulse. The results suggest i should see a dr bc of some sort of serious illness that can be triggered by it

@FreeLunch thank you for the info man

Smoking doesn’t help

I have some slight arrhythmia sometimes when I’m working out, I think it’s because of the years of clozapine

Anyway, I hope it’s not the abilify cuz that would be a bummer. I think abilify is a great drug

Hopefully, im pretty sure every other antipsychotic has a worse effect on hormones like testosterone compared to abilify. So yeah, deffo hope its not abilify.

Yeah I got tachycardia cause of Clozaril
But it was the only AP to stop positive symptoms at the time
I was prescribed Propranolol to reduce heart rate

I see. I have propranolol proscribed too. But i dont use it anymore bc i dont see an affect on anxiety which is what it was proscribed for

For anxiety only?

Propranolol is a beta blocker family med
It’s great for reducing heart rate and blood pressure. My heart rate due to Clozaril was about 120bpm. After taking 40mg a day of propranolol my heart is 80bpm rest

But yes it is also used sometimes for anxiety too

Are you still taking clozapine?

no I stopped. I titrated down on my own without telling my doctor or family, and then I had a psychotic break and refused medication for a year. then I had a second break and wound up in the hospital and got put on abilify. and I have been doing well on abilify.

clozapine made me gain 100 lbs, and also gave me retroactive ejaculation, as well as making my muscles weak. it restricted my lungs. it would knock me out with a sledghammer when i took the dose in the evening. terrible feeling akin to nausea and opiates mixed together!
I do not like the drug.

I’m still on clozapine
I’m on a pretty small dose now, 100mg a day
Used to be at 450mg daily

It was, at the time the only AP working for me
But as I said earlier it caused tachycardia

Now my doctor is taking away the propranolol slowly and trying to get me off Clozaril
Hoping it works out :crossed_fingers:

How long were you on Clozaril? It’s about 10 years here

I was on it for 4 years or so.
10 years is a long time man.
im glad to hear your doctor wants to get you off of it,
though I am sorry to hear about the tachycardia.

i have some slight arrythmia when i work out now, that was worse when i was still on it.

I’d be surprised if my pulse went under 100 while I was sleeping. It’s high and stays high. I know it’s not from my APs because when I was a teen and in great shape, my gym coach stopped me from running when we were just running around a track because when we checked my pulse (part of the exercise), it was insanely high. Always has been off like that. I think tachycardia is the biggest concern for a super high pulse that won’t come down, but when it gets very high, I can always feel it. It is not pleasant.

I just took mine now and it’s 85.

It was always close to 100 when I was having coffee throughout the day. Now I just have one cup in the morning.

These are the things you can do to normalize your pulse

Quit smoking
Lose weight
Abstain from alcohol
