I’ve been going through some difficulties lately and that’s why I’ve been away from the forum. I’m trying to recover from symptoms that disturb me (like voices, for example).
So in my last appointment with my psychiatrist we decided to reduce some medications like: Risperdal, Akineton and Klonopin. And I would just be taking Geodon (80mg twice daily every 12 hours). And I said to my pdoc that I was doing some exercices in a fitness center (but I stopped due to lack of support from my family and lack of money to pay to continue, as I’m unemployed.) Continuing, because of the exercises I think that I could decrease my anxiety and insomnia and then stop taking some meds. Maybe I could just walk near my house and do some exercises, like 30-40 minutes per day.
But I’m finding it a little difficult to discontinue Risperdal, which was prescribed but for anxiety rather than for psychotic symptoms.
Sometimes it seems to me that when I stop taking Risperdal, the psychotic symptoms want to increase, perhaps due to an increase in anxiety.
So we agreed to stop these drugs:
-
Risperdal (2mg) (cold turkey, in her opinion, probably because I’m already taking another antipsychotic, Geodon)
-
Akineton (2mg) (I need to wait 5 days after stopping Risperdal and staying 10-15 days taking Akineton - which I think would not be necessary all this time, since it is an anticholinergic and not antipsychotic or benozoadizidine.)
-
Klonopin (2mg) (After stopping Akineton - Stay 15 days taking 1mg Klonopin and then discontinue)
Anyway, what do you think of all this, would be the most correct thing to do?
