I have decided to come off med

in 2 months I have a pdoc appointment and I am going to ask my pdoc to slowly reduce my med until I am completely off. I am tired of having chest pains. and all other pains. I am on the same med (Risperdal) for 8 yrs. now, I don’t even think that the pdoc can have me on the same med for that long.

Any other side effect besides chest pain for being taking risperidone for that long?

Working with your doctor is always the best decision. I hope things work out well for you.

Chest pain, head ach, not able stand stll, gynocomestia, one eye getting dry, low energy, muscel pains.

I never suffered from hypochondriasis, after my pdoc raised my med for a year, i developed hypochondriasis

I have been on the same med basically for 45 years. I got real sick when the doctor discontinued it after a few years of taking it.

I think you’re unjustly blaming a lot of conditions on your med. Those aren’t known side effects, coming from many, many studies and medical references.

I think you’ll be surprised by how bad you feel WITHOUT the med once you stop.

Some of your symptoms can be helped by something like Cogentin which works for me. I hope you find relief.

I was on prolixen for about 34 years. It was still working but my doctors witched me to resperidone to avoid Tardive Dyskenisia. I’ve been on resperidone now for 10 years. It still works but I am a little sedated. I’m sure you realize that even if your doctor goes along with your plan you are putting yourself at risk for a relapse.

Thanks for your respons,

If i relapse i will go on a different med. usually once i relapse it takes a week to be normal again with med

Some people fall harder than that. Just be careful.

What do you think about changing meds? Will your doctor work with you on this? Maybe you just need a maintenance dosage. I wish you luck

I am slowly going to reduce it to the point i have relapse, than if i can handle very low dose i will stay on it. i think 1.75mg is too much for me

I tried Latuda instead of Geodon last fall. All hell broke lose. It was ugly. I have been on Geodon, a higher dose in fact ever since. Never again will I complain about Geodon’s side effects. Coffee and a beta blocker fix the sedation and akathisia. Xanax fixes my anxiety but doesnt dope me up too much. I still workout and am pretty built. I do extremely well in school and I do well socially too.

When I came off meds (risperidone ) three years ago, I had a severe relapse 6 months later. I was sent to hospital. In that hospital the pdoc put me on Zyprexa. But when I was discharged from hospital I came off meds again because I did not believe I had SZ. 3 months later I got a MASSIVE relapse which frightened me. I was sleepless, delusional and had seizures. I was sent to hospital again. The Pdoc put me on Invega which alleviated my symptoms quickly. Since that time I started to believe I needed this antipsychotics.

Did you had a chest pain wile on risperdal?

it was mostly in my abdomen i can’t remember but i had a lot of problems with that drug in the end.

its 20 days since I have reduced to 1.5mg from 1.75mg… I told my doctor that I want to come off of my med, and he said to reduce my med by 0.25mg. but I am doing it a different way I am cutting 0.25 in half and taking half for 15 days and than removing the other half. in this way I have little withdrawal symptoms,
