I’m debating on getting off of my ziprasidone at 60mg morning and night. Has anyone else out there successfully gotten off of this drug? How long does it take the anxiety inducing withdrawal symptoms to leave?
Always consult with a doctor before making changes to medication
Are you switching to a different medication or just stopping this?
I switched from Geodon to Latuda and it was a mistake. The week I lowered my 80 to 40 in the mornings, I got hit by PTSD and intrusive thoughts. I did not realize that was the reason at that time but now I know.
After the switch to Latuda, I got major depression, I started talking to myself, PTSD, intrusive thoughts, anxiety.
We could not figure out what was happening so after being ill for a whole year, I got on Abilify injections.
In 2017, I felt ready to get back to Geodon. It has been the best drug for me. I am the most normal on this medication. I also added two antidepressants and still not fully recovered. I still have a lot of symptoms.
I’m trying to just stop taking ziprasidone without a replacement. My pdoc told me at my last visit that he doesn’t know where to take my treatment from here so I’m basically on my own. I’m trying to switch doctors right now but as usual everything takes its time.
Ziprasidone honestly has worked the best so far at stopping the voices and hallucinations, as well as the emotional disorder of always laughing and crying hysterically. But taking geodon makes me feel like a zombie. There’s little to no symptoms, but there’s absolutely nothing going on upstairs for me. There’s no running thought process, there’s no talking, and nothing is enjoyable to me anymore. I feel like a hollow shell when I’m on it.
So I’m basically debating on wether I’d like to deal with my symptoms or the side effects of the medication.
It was a nightmare going off this med. Taper as slowly as possible. If you have benzos keep those handy as they can help a lot with the anxiety.
I don’t remember fully how long it took for the anxiety to go away…it was for several days after I finally came off the smallest possible dose which for me was 10 mg bc I actually broke 20 mg in half cuz it was too hard to come off that.
I got to where I was only taking 20mg of Geodon once a day. My doctor wouldn’t take me off of it and I stopped taking it I made it 4 days. Was in the hospital on the 5th day.
You need to go to 40 twice a day for a while. Then go to 20 twice a day for a while. Then maybe try 20 only once a day for a while or something. Only a doctor can provide you with that plan.
If you just stop taking it it will probably be disastrous.
