Can I just add that Harrison Bergeron is a work of fiction, not a how-to guide?!?
@anon9798425 a lot of people work very very hard to recover and fail.
I think that different people vary in terms of their capacity to recover,
some are theoretically able to while some are unable to.
People who have better opportunities to recover are what I would call mild,
although I prefer to steer clear of such adjectives as they may offend people.
“Mild” refers to the severity of your illness. Your capacity for recovery depends on a lot of different factors besides just this one. You are using the term “mild” incorrectly. I suggest you write your own dictionary and encyclopedia so you can just refer to that one in the future.
@anon9798425 I don’t think I am mistaken.
I think that the most important factor in determining illness severity is precisely the capacity to recover.
It is the difference between lifelong disability and being able to get back on track.
In summary.
Pixel wants to create an invitation-based forum where he can handpick members that fit his own criteria of high functionality.
I believe people should simply accept his initiative, without much ado. I, for example, would like to receive an invite, because I get along well with Pixel, not necessarily because I consider myself to be high functioning
@Andrey I think you don’t value this forum enough.
This forum is awesome.
If not for this forum I would sit on the sofa doing nothing.
I encourage you to stay on this forum.
I value this forum tremendously. I will definitely not leave anytime soon.
That’s good to hear! @Andrey !!
Very happy that you’re staying!!
The two are completely different things, Erez. Let me make it painfully obvious with an example: Two people have lost their eyes. They were completely removed and the remaining nerves are completely the same for each person. Person 1 is given two bionic eyes and can now see even better than before. Person 2 is not given any treatment and remains blind and eyeless.
Is person 1’s loss of their eyes and resulting blindness a mild case of eye-loss and blindness? Or is it their treatment that differs? Can you tell from the physical differences between person 1’s case and person 2’s case that person 1 will recover better (Hint: There are not physical differences)? No. Therefore, one case is not milder than another based on the possibility of recovery, and recovery depends on more than just the severity of illness.
I’d like to join although I am not always “high functioning” and not sure i have schizophrenia… but if it was open to everyone i’d definately join…
But that said, with those restrictions it’s gonna be hard to keep track of those in school and working… some might quit or like me have jobs on and off…
I think it’s only wrong if you say you are better as a person than X because you’re high functioning. Then if you did that you wouldn’t be very intelligent or high functioning in the first place.
As for lumping all of us together. To use a school analogy-sometimes there’s a need for streaming sometimes we benefit from being in a mixed setting with a range of abilities.
Where I depart from Pixel intellectually on this issue is that it’s not a simple, black and white issue high vs low functioning . Many have moderate functioning that may benefit from the kind of forum Pixel is proposing. Also functioning is seldom a uniform thing within an individual across clinical domains.
@Erez_Shmerling I think you should write that encyclopedia and mention this example. You can call person 1’s eye-loss an anti-illness since the recovery resulted in improved functioning.
If @anon80629714 would join I would join, as well.
It is highly unpleasant for a severe case of schizophrenia from which it is impossible to
recover to be with higher functioning people but I don’t mind.
@anon9798425 I think that you should replace the word illness with blessing in the case of bionic eye.
But this is just a linguistic dispute.
I believe that illness severity is to be defined according to the actual damage it does to
the individual.
Yeah, that’s a nice way of saying you’re too proud to admit when you’re wrong.
Good thinking. I suggest we start calling you a math professor.
@anon9798425 you are free to call me a math professor!!!
I love the second part but not the first.
We have a difference of opinion regarding how to define illness and illness severity.
I respectfully disagree with you.
Btw if you’re looking for a moderator and you see me as high functioning

Sorry but while I think it’s good to have a positive attitude It’s intellectually erroneous and simplistic to see that as panacea for all ills. Some of us are naturally possessed with more raw potential than others. It’s not about being a replica Pixel doll. It’s about people trying their best whatever level they reach.
Not all of us are metaphorically going to climb Everest. For some of us it might be about climbing that small hill.
I won’t give anyone false hope here. There are some people on here so entrenched in victimhood that I don’t think there’s any chance they’ll ever take charge of their life. Maybe PIxel wants a forum for serious recover-ers- not better recover-ers
