HF SZ support site

I don’t like repeating mistakes – prefer to make new ones.

The Kinks were originally going to call the song " A well respected member of schizophrenia.com" but it lacked a certain something.

I guess it’s okay with you if only special people get to do that.

Need to find something that makes up for never getting an invite to Bilderberg.

I bet that’s how my Dad felt when he couldn’t use a white man’s bathroom.

Dammit. How did you find out that I have access to time travel tech and this was actually my fault?

Well that’s what you’re doing with this new site idea of yours isn’t it?

I don’t remember saying it was your fault.

You’re Scott Bakula and I claim my $5.

No, it has nothing to do with race. People at different places in their recovery talk about different things. For example, those of us with a quarter century of sobriety often have different needs than newcomers to AA who are in an immediate crisis stage. It’s not uncommon for AA “oldsters” to meet privately without newbs around to discuss “our” issues.

And he did a good job.

I don’t think Pixel is being an elitist here. It’s not elitism to point out that his level of function carries with it problems that are not addressed well enough on a forum with people all over the spectrum of functioning, just like it’s not elitism to say that a child with a high IQ will learn better if it’s not in a special ed class. There are huge differences in functioning between people with schizophrenia. I actually think this discussion is pretty symptomatic of some real issues with grouping everyone together. That doesn’t mean we should change this site, though, which is why he asked if anyone was interested in a new forum to supplement this one.

TL;DR: Pointing out that different people sometimes have different needs is not elitism.

Not at the end, if we’re being honest. It’s good for everyone that I’ve moved on and others have moved in.

You couldn’t take any breaks, though. I would be a terrible mod if I couldn’t take breaks.

@anon82948922 way to go!!!
Very many people are loath to admit they ever did something wrong/made mistakes etc.

I didn’t say your making the site about race. I’m saying, with reference to your words, that you want to make a new site with restricted membership because you think you’re in a group that’s better than other’s.

If you want to meet privately, do it in a PM. Besides how would you determine who is better in their functioning anyways?

Yeah, I’m just the guy who has been getting dumped on for over 15 years around here for his belief that nearly all SZs are capable of incredible recovery if only they adopted the right attitude and a worth ethic. I would love for everyone here to be able to have families, careers, etc.

That’s prima facie.

Pixel wants a new forum for people who have recovered better than most others. He never pretended it was about anything else. Do you think we should pretend that everyone is equally good at everything just to not offend anyone? Should we get rid of IQ tests? Should we grade every paper and test in school with an A? Should we pick employees at random because no one is supposed to be better? You can see how absurd your logic is. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with saying someone does something better than others. However, Pixel did not even once say that he is a superior person because he has recovered better than most others. That’s not what this discussion is about. But somehow, several people here assume that’s what he meant. Isn’t it obvious, then, that there is a need for a place to talk about these things without people assuming there’s something wrong with you for even mentioning that these differences exist?

I would formulate it in a different way-
he wants a separate forum for mild cases.
Everyone badly wants to recover and everyone tries their best.

I’m currently being studied by a pair of psychiatrists who want to understand how someone who was as severely impaired as I was could recover to the extent I have.

No, some people work harder than others on their recovery. These people tend to do better, regardless of how severe their condition was in the first place. Some people have beliefs that prevent them from trying their best. Some people are comfortable with their situation and hardly try at all. Some people are limited in other ways than you and I, and their best does not equal our best.
