Here we go again/DX change

On the first session my new psychiatrist diagnosed me with SZA bipolar type. It was very brief
But at today’s session she acknowledged that I have Bipolar disorder instead.
I’ve been cycling between depression and mania lately and after further descriptions of my symptoms she changed my diagnosis to bipolar disorder.
Honestly I agree with her assessment
My primary symptoms are mania and depression and my psychosis appears only when my moods shift.
Regardless of this change I will continue to post on the forum.
The Facebook bipolar online sites are horrible.

Good to hear you got a diagnosis you feel that fits. I’m glad you will continue to post here. @wave. I think I have something but I don’t think I have the bipolar or the bipolar element. Heck I don’t think I have sz. I think I have BPD … because I do struggle with moods. But I’m not a doctor and I shouldn’t try to self diagnose. Hoping to see a doc for more clarity soon.

Yes I have SZA with bipolar tendencies. They said I have SZA because I have psychosis continuously regardless of moods changes. Apparently with just bipolar disorder you have psychosis only in association with the mood swings. Your diagnosis makes sense to me. Please stick around here. You are a strong support system here and I personally enjoy your presence!

hey wave you more than fit the criteria for this forum as you have experienced psychosis, this seems to be the main determination for being here.

one thing about dx changes is that docs sometimes only diagnose what you are experiencing at the time of visiting them, so if your sz is stable on meds but you are experiencing other problems that take priority, then that is what they focus on at the time, idk if a new dx should cancel out previous, seems kinda risky in the realm of psychiatry
