So before I had schizophrenia I was 12 stone. I’m quite tall so I was very skinny at that weight. Over time since then (13 years or so) Ive slowly gained more and more weight to the point where I’m now 18 stone (250 pounds). Even in the last 5 years or so I’ve gone up a jean size once, and if Im honest I need to go up a jean size again to wear comfortable clothing.
I just dont know what to do. I don’t feel like I really eat that much food or have any crazy habits. I eat a fair bit of chocolate here and there but not every day or even every week. I don’t munch or crisps or drink soda.
Every time I get hung up on it I look at fad diets. It worked once before for me where I cut out all carbs and lost a jean size or two. But I don’t think they are really realistic long term.
I don’t really do any exercise at all, and Im sitting down through most days. My mum suggested that because Im not active I need to eat considerably less than most people do. Maybe only eat twice a day. I might start doing that.
Some part of me wants to stop taking my medications because Im so overweight I can’t stand it. I definitely eat less when I get depressed. And anti psychotics and anti depressants are both meant to cause weight gain generally.
I feel like something like that would help. Just some achievable aim that is daily. I’ve never been into sport at all and whenever people ask me if I’d like to do running or play football (soccer) I’m always just like “no sports are ■■■■■■■ lame”… Thanks for the advice @Leaf
@GrayBear Yeah I think I’ll have to try that. I love chocolate, but not the cheap stuff. I tend to have a bar a week or so (usually less). I try and make it last. But I do eat cookies most days, can cut that out.
@Gagis I used to smoke a lot, like a stupid amount 50 a day or something. I will never go back to it. It started messing my breathing up and I’m very happy as an ex-smoker.
To be completely honest with you, I was on Olanzepine which is well known for weight gain. I gained weigh till 195 pounds and I was eating quite a bit then. I believe you are underestimating how much carbs, sugars, fats and calories you are eating. It happens a lot with people who fail to lose weight, the underestimation.
Don’t forget to count alcohol calories too. Vodka (I saw another post of yours) still has calories. So if you’re not losing weight, make sure to count all calories. But, APs have a huge effect on weight loss so even if you count all your calories, you’ll still not lose as easily because you’re on them.
