Frustrated with lack of weight loss.

Hey there, I am new here, so if posting this wrong I apologise.

Anyway, Im a pretty high functioning “Schizophrenic” I work a full time job, live independently, so on so fourth.

As most people may have experienced, I have gained a significant amount of weight while taking my antipsychotic. I cant really blame it all on the drug though, as I basically gave up on trying to be healthy after my diagnosis.

Anyway, I recently tapered off medication and lost about 20kgs, I need to lose another 20kgs but I had to go back onto the medication, I’m on a very low dose of Amisulpride (50mg).
Since going back on the medication my weight loss has slowed drastically, Im lucky to loose 1kg a month now, but at least I havent put it back on. I have also been diagnosed as pre-diabetic.

Anyway, I just want to know if anyone has had success losing weight on these medications? Since going on back on meds, I have been noticeably weaker and more tired. I also have a Personal Trainer who I believe is getting frustrated with my lack of progress.

I am seeing a Psych in a few weeks to discuss, but generally I find they are very dismissive of any complaints in relation to medication and just tell you everything is okay, you know how they can be.

Anyway, if anyone has had success losing weight and getting healthy on medications please let me know.

Thank you.

See a nutritionist that deals with people on APs. If not versed in macros, micros and timing, you’re doomed to gain weight on APs if you eat the same way as not on them. Not allmeds causeweight gain, but it differs per person per drug. And if anyone suggests topamax or topimirate, run, run far away from them. It’s slows your cognitive thinking which isn’t surprising since it’s primary purpose is migraines and seizures. Yes, motivation also comes with the territory, but if you have a routine, it’s easier. Hope that helps some

I would say if your doing everything else right and feel well enough to do so. Youve most likely not just given up on that aspect. In some of us our genetics really dont work well with aps in terms of weight. I am one of those people. I personally think its okay to blame the aps. Because you really didnt eat yourself into this situation. But it doesnt mean you dont have to take the responsibility to change it. Being overweight can cause even more emotional damage then the illness itself. Nutritionist is a good idea.

No response so no feedback for us? I do apologize but your actual question wasn’t answered, it is totally possible to maintain a healthy weight. Challenging, yes, but totally doable. I’ve been dealing with this for over 20 years. It can be done :hugs:.

Ill keep doing what im doing, my diet is very good, the weight loss has slowed, but its still happening!!! Honestly, probably at a healthier rate, losing 20kg in a few months is probably not the healthiest approach.

Actually it’s not necessarily diet, it’s more about timing. I’m a firm advocate of quality of life unless you have special dietary needs. Quality of life :hugs:. Also, different meds affect blood sugar levels. Best of luck and remember “scales are for fish” and “lift big but love bigger”

Thus might seem offensive.

Less is more, they say.

Less.

Is.

More.

More happiness as you step on a scale.

Doctors, people, and scientists, and most people, i disagree with them.

Pretty much all of them.

To put it bluntly, minus your eating habits with soup, and veggies.

Doctors will throw dissected frogs at me screaming violently the word protein.

SOUP.

VEGETABLES.

and why not some vitamins.?.

There ,

Hope i didn’t offend anyone.

If i did,

ALL APOLOGIES (!!!)

Peace!

I’m doing well but it’s a slow process. My first goal is under 100kgs from 110. I’m almost there.

It takes dedication in eating and exercise. I can do the exercise but I’m a lover of food and that is where my next step is. Food and drink and less and portion control.

It is doable. It’s harder if you work full time but if you start exercising you sometimes don’t lose much as you gain muscle mass. It’s better having that muscle though and it all gets easier. So food and exercise the modern sz life. Portion control and discipline.

Quick irresistible question.

How is it harder to eat less if you are working all day?

It’s exercise what I am referring too. Depends on job and time after work. When I work I do nothing but eat, sleep and work. There’s no exercise. Food in. Exercise burning food. All’s I’m saying!

SO your job is eating food?.

Kobain had severe stomach issues. You do realize heroin was given to him for this issue, and after that he became addictefd to it. Makes one also wonder how his intense stage fright vomiting affected his health as well…wait, he had body issues as well . Ok, now that we really reflect on the man, not the legend we realize, even a “grudge god” was human , too.

I don’t have a job and I just eat too much. More specifically I eat bigger portions than needed although I exercise a lot. Not sure about the 3rd degree but you win. I’m tired. Time for bed!

e(Y)e don’t know much about karate either.

Thanks for tha trophy (!!!),

Hav a grrr-ate suhleep (!!!)

Um @ATARI can I ask you why you are targeting @rogueone here? He’s a cool dude. Though he is perfectly capable of handling himself, I would still like to point out that you are not being supportive but rude. I have no beef with you, but pointing out something not cool,k

You are making a clear point i agree.

Usually i try not to agree with peoples i hav never talked to for more than 24 hours or so, but!,

He confused me.

Jus wanted to clear away the cobwebs of confusion.

Soz, @rogueone, not trying to be rude.

I sometimes get sarcastic and find odd humor in what i don’t understand.

Keeps it cools (!!!)

Thanks @anon98519533, you are being very free with your speech of my speech in question.

Don’t forget to continue to roll da dice (!!!)
