Help? Hospital?

Hey guys… long time no post…

I’ve had a few more episodes since I’ve last posted but um… I’ve been having some trouble …
I get suicidal thoughts along with all my other symptoms … currently on Prozac? 10mg

One of my therapists wants me to see a Psychiatrist ASAP to be properly diagnosed. The thing is here in Canada, the normal waits can be 6-9 months. My therapist thinks I am an emergency with my symptoms, so she wants me to go through the hospital to get an appointment if I can’t get one within the next few weeks …

She told me if I go through the hospital, there is a possibility they could keep me there for a few days in order to diagnose me fully. I’m really scared to go to the hospital… should I be worried ? Do you think it’s even much of a possibility ?

If you are feeling suicidal, you should get help. If you only want to go to a hospital to get a diagnosis, it is probably better to wait until you can see a regular psychiatrist. I am not a medical professional, though, and ultimately it is up to you and how you are feeling.

Thank you… though I think my therapist told me they’d diagnose me and give me antipsychotics and then monitor that…

You said your on prozac. Is that through a MD? Maybe the M.D. can help you some way?

I dont know about Canada but in usa, therapist cant prescribe.

If you do feel suicidal the hospital is an option. Is it thoughts that are insincre, or do you have a plan to do it. If you have a plan already, then, go to the hospital.

I wouldn’t say it’s a plan… I counted how many pills I had to see if I could overdose on them but no set date or anything. I was going to swallow them during an episode. I don’t know if that counts.

Yeah I got the Prozac through my family doctor

I would say to go then because if you were doing that during a time you were emotional then you could be running on impulse.

Being impulsive with thoughts like that flying around sounds risky. Do you have a very trusted family member who is responsible enough to leave you only your needed dose for the day?

They have injections they can do, but i hear the one called invega leaves injection site marks. No one here seems to have much complaints about the others(but make another post to ask that cause i know so little about injectables)

Hope ot helps?

Last please look up a crisis line to call. If you feel impulsive or suicidal or aggitated, then stop and call the number.

I have tried the crisis line but it left be feeling more alone,. Maybe because I didn’t call them I used their chat line.

So… do you think then … that counts as a suicide plan? I was always unsure… if that counted… I had theorized that the pills was the easiest way as they’re so accessible… and I knew how much would kill me because I’ve taken a similar dangerous dosage before due to bad pain…

Also yes… I get very impulsive sometimes even outside my attacks… I will bite my hand and try to make myself bleed or stab my leg with a pencil, or hit myself over the head with whatever is in my hand. I feel a compulsion to.

I would think it is a plan, as you are saying you have put thought into it. Is there someone you have around you that can give you only your dose?

And yes, I would call the crisis line and speak to someone in person. That would kind of facilatate you to ask the questions you need to ask.

It would be best if you had, what is called around here, a safe plan. This means if you are in crisis (suicidal) then you know exactly what to do, who to call, where to go. You need to have a plan to keep yourself safe.

Help you to help yourself by finding a crisis number now?

That’s a good idea ! My dose? Of Prozac? I wouldn’t plan to overdose on that, I was planning of overdosing on pain medication. Like tylonel or Advil

I am alright for now, but I will come up with a plan. Not suicidal, just unsure if I am even “emergency” enough to go through emergency. Though I feel as though if I wait 6 months for proper medication, I will die

I caution you against that overdose. I dont want to be morbid so I wont say, but that is really a terrible idea.

When you say come up with a plan, you are refering to working on a safty plan? Did you get a crisis phone number to call? It is important.

If you really thinknyou will try suicide in the future then yes, I suggest going to a hospital.

Yes I meant a safety plan. I’ll find some of the numbers and put them in my phone. Thank you for the suggestion.

Have you ever been overnight at hospital?

No I have not. I hear it is boring as can be and loud. Exspect to do a lot of sitting around.

But this is better than suicide.

If you have insurance of anykind then the hospital will be better than public healthcare.

I believe hospitals are free here in Canada… thank you for the help Macee

How come all the mods ? Is this a bad post? Should I take it down ?

If you are feeling suicidal, please tell someone — a friend or family member, a doctor or therapist or call 911 (if you’re in the U.S.) or the Emergency Medical Services phone number in your country.

You can also call a suicide prevention hotline—these are available in the U.S. and in many other countries.

Hey @doodle! Sorry you haven’t been doing well. I haven’t been doing the best either. I don’t know about your part of the country, but I recently had a similar experience out here, therapist referring to a psychiatrist. I skipped past the waiting period, just cause of how serious stuff was, so there’s a good chance you might get that too, esp if you’re feeling suicidal.

I asked in group what to do if they do want to hold you for observation, and according to some seasoned sz folks, it’s always better to voluntarily check yourself into the hospital than have them commit you (cause you can leave when you’re done). It might be different in where you are? I would check out your provincial mental health act just in case. But if they do want to hold you, I would sign yourself in.

Hospitals are scary af, not gonna lie. But you need the help they’re going to give you. Take the appointment, and just remember to breathe. We’re here for you :two_hearts:
