Having the best time ever. Very nice accommodation. Very good company. Spending a lot of time with my neighbour in guesthouse. His name is Dan from London, we are same age and have the same interests, both working class lads. we talk for ages about films and tv programmes and at night watch his huge collection of movies on his MacBook while sitting on our balcony over looking a beautiful lake, drinking a few beers and cigs. For afternoon meal we got 3 frozen macaroni cheese meals from supermarket and cooked them in the frying pan on small stove in my kitchen with added milk . That meal cost £3.30 so split two ways was £1.65 each, we got some Sri Lankan cheap fizzy orange aid and mixed it with fresh mango juice. Very good. Dan is good at cooking cheap but tasty meals because he’s a backpacker. He’s decided to say here at guesthouse for another week because he’s enjoying himself and I am too.I really like the backpacking lifestyle. I’m going to do more backpacking, you meet fabulous people staying in cheap guesthouses more than in hotels. This guesthouse cost £11 a night and it’s the best place I’ve stopping in in Sri Lanka and I’ve been here 3 times.
Glad you’re having a good time, but stay safe!
You sound like your having a good time but I second @everhopeful s sentiment. Be aware is all.
I’m very sensible. I keep my messenger bag on me at all times when out. Don’t get drunk, have Card and money stashed In lock suitcase, which is locked. Especially don’t drink the tapwater, but overall Sri Lanka is a very safe country. Also, I seasoned traveller and have my wits about me.
Glad you’re having a nice time!
Glad to read that you’re having a swell time with your friend.
Jealous. I can’t seem to get to anywhere I’d like to be lately. Had to spend this weekend doing chores around the home.
I admire your courage to travel and do these things. I have in the past but I lack the courage now.
Have lots of fun and please be safe!
Also; why are you not eating tons of their cuisine, why frozen meals? if I was there Id be stuffing my face with coconut curries and bread. All day every day
@bobbilly all going ok? The Londoner aint put you in the masala or anything yet?
Sounds like you’re having an awesome time! I love that kind of laid-back backpacker lifestyle too. Staying in guesthouses has a way of making everything feel more personal, and you meet some great people that way. That meal sounds perfect for the vibe—cheap, simple, and still delicious. I’ve had some similar moments, like making random meals with whatever’s around and just hanging out. It’s those little things that make trips memorable. Backpacking definitely lets you dive into the culture more than staying in fancy hotels.
How’s the trip going?
Should we be worried at this point?
No need to be worried. I’m doing good. Having a brilliant time.
I expect to see your excellent photography, @bobbilly. You have a good eye and I will be riding you on this when you’re back.
