Have you ever phoned helpline services Samaritans etc?

Have you ever called helpline services, and if you did, where they helpful? Places like Samaritans and many others. Did you get any value out of that?

I just recently re-discovered them, and would like to learn more about it.

I’ve used them. Mixed opinion, it depends on who answers the phone and whether you are comfortable talking to them. I have called them and hung up due to a gut feeling their not the right person for me, then redialed moments later and spoke with someone else. You don’t have to be suicidal to call the Samaritans, which is good. You can call them for someone to talk to before you get to that stage.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

I used a text crisis line and didn’t get much out of it. I was hearing command hallucinations that were difficult to deal with, wasn’t suicidal.

I’m sorry to hear that.

I had my nurse calling me for simple chat and to check on me. Fri, Sat and Sun. I got 3 calls and now I’m starting to feel that one of those helplines might be a great option for me, sure it might take some time, but I felt great after the phone calls.

I have used them. It depends on who you are talking to. Some are not mentally prepared for that sort of work. Some are really great and I can say my first experience with using one, the lady was REALLY nice. I was using a website that allowed me to request time with a specific person however this girl blocked me for some reason? Anyways, I stopped using that site and have been using 741741 text crisis line and they seem more helpful, I think?

They aren’t trained to deal with psychosis though but the website I was using can have users that are.

I used to be connected to some services I could call if things got too bad, but they sort of have the mindset that if you have someone else to help you, you should call them first

The last time I called a hotline they had an attitude with me. They told me to just take my meds. That was it.

I’ve gotten that a lot too, when I call the psych emergency room.
I tell them the as-needed medicine doesn’t do anything but make me tired, and they go “Well, I can see you’ve been prescribed 50mg more today. why don’t you take those first and then call back later if you still feel this way?

I agree that the meds should be tried first, but if I call saying they don’t work, the answer is not to take more :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow this made me very sad actually

Sounds like they are just pretending to care. If this were a parent telling you this, and the drug was illegal, it would be considered child abuse in the united states. “Just get high, it makes you less bothersome to me”

I mean, I can understand it from their point of view. There’s no point in asking me to come in, if I haven’t done everything to get better on my own. If all it took was 50mg of Seroquel and I hadn’t taken those, I’d feel stupid, and they’d feel like they had wasted their time.

Ok sorry. I get upset sometimes…

I’ve called the mental health crisis line a handful of times. In a way, I guess it helped a little but not a ton. They basically tried to get me to think of what I could do to distract myself from what I was going through.

I’ve called a few times. Was placed on hold forever, really only 10 minutes or so. By then I gave up and never talked to anyone. I tried the chatline too, same thing was on hold waiting forever.
