Have you ever done group therapy?

I hadn’t until the past few years.

It’s not something I ever imagined myself doing because I’m self-conscious about speaking in front of a group. Plus having to open up to non-internet strangers about your struggles is hard.

I think it’s gotten, if not easier, at least less hard over time.

I’m hoping to get even more benefit from my second round of DBT. So far it’s been really helpful.

I’ve done group therapy, but it was many years ago. I don’t even remember what we were talking about. I do remember that an argument broke out about helicopters (this was in the VA).

That said, I think group therapy can be very helpful.

I like group therapy more than individual therapy but it’s pretty much limited here to only in the hospital. I used to go to a DBT group but that was a few years ago. There’s a NAMI support group every other week here but i don’t go to it.

i have done two different groups.. One for anxiety…found that absaloutly useless and one for women who had traumatic births…this one was very useful.

I didnt like that we couldnt bring certain things up though in the trauma group incase it would trigger others. So i had to have one on one psychology though for that.

The first group I did was with a charity

There were 6 of us

It was the most depressing thing I have ever done

The facilitator did not help at all. People just talking about how miserable they were

After they found out I had schizophrenia they stopped talking to me

Last year I tried one with the mental health team

Only lasted two sessions as I became overwhelmed very quickly and my brain was getting out of joint
