and did this necessitate a reduction in anti psychotics…or can you get some med which help ease heart trouble
I really don’t want to reduce my anti psychotics as I don’t want a return to the humiliating madness

I though I was having heart issues because I kept having pains, but the doctor ran some tests and discovered I had a shoulder muscle that kept getting pinched.
@Pikasaur did you get an ecg done or any other heart test…how is it that the doctor diagnosed a shoulder preoblem
Yes they ran some tests and such
Heart issues since birth (congenital heart defects), a heart attack, and a pacemaker that is currently not working as well as it should.
No, not ever. My head meds have never caused a problem with my heart or heart meds that I am aware of. I was taken off of Geodon for a bit because my family doctor was concerned, but a cardiologist overruled him and let me have it back.
You may need a med, surgery, or a combination depending on what kind of heart problem. Only a cardio specialist can give you proper advice here.
I’m unaware of any reason why you’d have to, but, once again, only a doctor can advise on this properly. Please see a doctor about your concerns.
thanks @velociraptor…your post has been a great help…but what I would like to ask you is im on a high dose of anti psychotics…im on 800mg quetiapine and 20mg of olanzapine…is that high dosage putting a strain on my heart
I don’t know. I’m not a doctor or pharmacist.
I’m having all kinds of tests being done on my heart. There was no mention of lowering doses. The only thing my Dr told me was to take a baby aspirin every day. He says that will not affect my meds at all and if I do have heart problems it will help.
I have cardiac dysrythmia since 2015. I take Tambocor and Concor for it. I had no need to reduce my AP. I’m on 25mg of Abilify.
I have a naturally fast heart rate.
My doctor at the time prescribed me a beta blocker.
Go see a doctor @karl.
I have a mitral valve leak. It’s very mild and they keep an eye on it. No medication is needed or treatment at this moment in time. Hopefully it will stay that way.
I have acquired long qts. Yes, it ■■■■■■■ sux. Therefore, I’m limited on meds I can take.
excuse my ignorance but what is qts @anon98519533
Prolonged qts it’s easier if you google. It’s the reason why most drs order those ekgs
I have sinus-taci-cardi
I had an EKG issue and quit Geodon cold turkey for 6 days. It was rough but I went and saw a cardiologist and got cleared to go back on it. Was told I had a prolonged QT interval but the heart doctor says it’s good.
I asked the psychiatrist who told me the EKG was bad to taper me off of it vice having to quit it cold turkey again but he tells me since I am stable stay on it. I have the most side effects from Geodon but it really works for me.
He said we will just keep getting EKGs and checking it.
Always do what the doctors tell you …its always the best option.
I don’t have any heart issues, and i have taken medication that is supposedly higher risk of cardiac dysfunction. I’m currently on Ziprasidone (Geodon), and i had regular ECG’s to ensure i didn’t acquire a prolonged qts. I’m also on Clozapine (i’m switching to this instead of the Geodon as it hadn’t been working that well for me) and i’ve had more ECG’s and an echocardiogram. All turned out normal. The only thing is that i’m tachycardic or have an above average fast heart rate. This can be a side effect of the Clozapine but it will settle down in time apparently. Some medications can trigger heart conditions in people who are vulnerable so it is good they monitor for it. However, if you have no issues with your heart, then you shouldn’t need to have your dosages lowered. If the medication is responsible for a heart complaint, then they’ll probably look at weaning you off one AP while they transfer you to another.
