Has your taste in music changed because of schizophrenia?

I use to listen to it before…guitar, piano and pan flute etc but any music is to much input for my brain.
I have some relaxation cd’s with water running or birds chirping etc but I never listen to it anymore. It is actually very sad that things have turned out this way for me.
But things can change and who knows maybe some day soon I’ll listen to it again.
What is your situation with music @zeno ?.

When I was 15 I listened to pop and rock but now it sounds too fast and noisy so I only listen to quiet instrumental music.

Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say music didn’t give you the same feeling? I’m wondering if your experience is similar to mine… I used to feel emotional nuances and rich energies when I listened to music, but now (I’m on meds too) I don’t.

i like most manner of music… but love metal…lately foreign metal korpiklaani finnish folk metal… Varg deutchland metal… still like American bands…so no not really sz hasn’t stopped me from being a music junkie… anyone one who pours their soul into their music and I stumble upon it will atleast have my respect… too much fast cash gimmicky cookie cutter music kind of hard to find newer bands or artists that are worth the time… ah…but ive always had this affliction so I cannot say what non sz flame would like…

I think that’s a good way of describing it. I definitely used to feel more of an emotional pull when listening to music.

I used to listen mostly to pop (and hits from 60-70’s) music as a kid. Now I listen to a wide variety of music from pop to classical music scores. I like artist from Britney Spears to Beyonce, to Marilyn Manson, to John Williams to Hanz Zimmer. Not to forget my new age music from Enigma to Dan Gibson Solitudes to David Arkenstone. I also listen to Dark ambient artists like Atrium Carceri, Cryo chamber, Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Sabled Suns, to Adrian von Ziegler, sometimes I just listen to noise generators like rainfall, or jungle sounds, or even Georgian Chant music…it really just depends on my mood as to what I listen to. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what I listen to. I have even come to like some country music which my younger self would scoff at. The only thing I still haven’t grown used to liking is opera,…I could also do without Death metal.

I rarely listen to music any more.
Sometimes I’ll turn on the car radio when driving or play a YouTube video (rarely)

I think I’ve changed over time, so my taste in music has also. Having schizophrenia has made me more compassionate.

I noticed that I don’t really rock out on music anymore. Something changed where I just don’t feel it so much any more.

Thanks for the response!

My taste changes a lot. I remember getting really into jazz because the complexity could keep my offbeat mind entertained. Now the complexity annoys me a bit, in an overstimulating way. Though sometimes I can enjoy it. Now minimalism is something I like more. Slow meditation music is the easiest music for me to hear. Folk music too. I’ve gotten more into electronic dance music too.

One thing I’ve noticed that may have influence on what I listen to is the people I’m around. On my own I like Pop music and Movie Scores the most.

I noticed when I was around some of the workers at my last job (many years ago) I would listen to Soul/R&B and Hip-hop…because that’s what they’d listen to…now I do like those types of music and will listen to them some times they’re not my go to music any more like back then.

Hanging out with my oldest friend (whom I haven’ heard from for other reasons) I’d listen to more rock music. But time and time again I go back to Pop & Classical Music scores (from both movies and video games).
