Has anyone else seen this movie? I have found it very inspirational. It is about the story of John Nash, a Nobel prize winning mathematician who suffered schizophrenia. What do you guys think of it?
A lot of people here have seen it and discuss the movie a lot.
I saw it years ago, long before I was diagnosed as Sz. Rented it with my sister. It was pretty good.
One of my first experiences with voices was a high school teacher telling me that this would be me while watching the movie. A creature of solitude focused on probabilities. (; I am certainly no John Nash but I do have an appreciation for geometry and expressions of equations in geometrical format.
One of my favorite films.
I’m a big Russel Crowe fan.
I saw it in theaters as a kid. I think I was 11. Long before I ever thought I’d have sz I didn’t understand his fantasy characters At the time or the men in white coats. But I liked the movie.
It’s a cool movie. Hollywoodized of course but still a fun watch.
Not once in 59 years.
I hated it the first time I saw it. My psychiatrist told me to watch it. I said I don’t have that. I don’t have any invisible friends.
Fast forward a few years and I hallucinate just like he did but instead of thinking I work for the government I think the government is out to get me.
Now I think it’s a fairly accurate depiction. Good movie. Even shows the struggle with meds although I understand Mr Nash quit his meds. So I like the Hollywood part of it.
I like it how his wife stuck around even when he said I’m not sure if I will harm you. That was quite heartfelt. I like jeniffer connelly too. The wife. She is really beautiful.
And it was this movie that made me finally think that maybe it is a good idea to ignore voices. Cos we are reinforcing those voices brain pathways by listening.
IDK. I still am uncertain cos maybe those messages are meant to be heard. It’s confusing for me.
Whether I should or should not listen to voices whilst they are still around…
I saw it way before I was diagnosed. So it was a bit ironic that I couldn’t see any of myself in it.
Yup, another good one is ‘good will hunting’ — I love ‘A beautiful mind’ as well
well john nash never actually hallucinated visually. so it is made for movie. he had auditory hallucinations in his head.
I saw it twice but I don’t know how much of it was real.
I have watched it before I was diagnosed and after,
before I thought it was a ghost movie
and after diagnosed I understood the movie.
The only movie which is found difficult to watch was the Joker,
it took 4 days for me to complete the movie,
I had to watch it as my friends said its awesome.
If I remember correctly he drew lines in the stars in that movie. You sure he never visually hallucinated? Looked like a visual hallucination to me.
edit after google search:
" While the film A Beautiful Mind depicted John Nash as having visual hallucinations , most of his hallucinatory experiences were auditory."
Plus you meant in Real life, not the movie. I get it now.

I Prefer ‘Gladiator’.
But ‘A Beautiful Mind’ Has Some Beautiful Scenes.
I’ve seen the movie. I ran into a local guy who is a math teacher at the university level. He said at the start of the year the students have to trust the foundations he’s teaching them and by time they graduate he has to trust them. John Nash did some groundbreaking stuff, hope they have someone smart enough to check his work.
Apparently he also had delusions that people wearing red shirts were Russians involved in a conspiracy against him
I saw it. I thought it was okay. Definitely very Hollywood, with the men in black and all.
The documentary, The Devil and Daniel Johnston, is a lot more of a better and accurate portrayal of mental illness and hearing voices. Good music in it too.
